I don't know, but why in the world does it take 5 years to write an album? Lateralus and Aenima I could understand, but 5 years for 10,000 Days???
Because their lives don't revolve around making the same kind of music over and over again, Maynard joined A Perfect Circle(Which lasted from 2000 to 2004, which is time that could have been spent making 10,000 Days), started his own project Puscifer and is pursuing other interests such as his vineyards. Danny Carey has been in several side projects. The band itself is planning to continue touring until 2008 where they have said they're planning "to take some time off", if I remember correctly..
Really they are dedicated to Tool as a band, but they see no reason to rush their music and they give their inspirations good time to aspire into something amazing. Say whatever you want, but Tool is not your regular money grubbing band that stands for nothing and are just out to rush their albums and create music that gives you, the listener, no philosophical or musical insight.
