I like the music and lyrics from all four albums. Does anyone else have this problem? On Opiate, the song Opiate seems to be lower quality, the volume is lower and it doesnt sound as rich.
Not familiar with all of the songs, but I believe that "Sober" is off of Undertow. The lyrics might be dark, but they are very, very good.

i don't mean the music. Musically, from Opiate to Lateralus, Tool is just amazing. however, lyrically they have changed. and i think they've changed for the better, that's all. :)

i agree... if you compare the lyrics in aenima with lateralus you see just how much cleaner they are now...

Forty-Six & 2 is my favorite, along with Ticks and Leeches and Stinkfist.

btw, do any of you guys know how HWAP got it's name. (i used the acronym because i don't think i can say that on CF)

I know the song you're referring to, and personally, I don't like it much. Not just because of the name. :)

because maynard is one messed up guy. someone called him a sellout, so he wrote a really angry song about not being a sellout... how he got that name i'll never know... i suppose it sorta goes with the part "if i'm a man and you're a man then he's a man as well"... kinda... i don't really know...

i don't think christians should have morals.

I know this isnt the forum to be discussing morality....but that statement is ignorant. Morals are, by my definition, recognizing human dignity and acting on it. I don't understand how you can't figure that out without God telling you what to do.

Anyway Maynard, take no notice of what others say. I think your band is really cool, and the videos crack me up, especially 'Stinkfist' and 'Aenema'.

he says "i'm THE MAN, and you're THE MAN, and he's THE MAN as well"

meaning "THE MAN" (the powers that be)

i was just wondering about the title, because i don't see exactly how it relates to the song.

my point is that i don't think christians should act in any particular way because they "have morals". I think christians should act Godly because that's what God asks. I think non-christians have morals. and i think christians have the standard of jesus, that they try to live up to.

that's what i was trying to say.

Music is one om my biggest passions, and I listen to a wide variety. I used to listen to almost all secular, but have drifted more towards christian stuff. I still listen to alot of secular stuff. I haved listened to a little Tool, and what I've heard I like, but I'm not that into them so I can't quite go with that. I do, however, feel like music does influence listeners. You may not think or realize that it does, but in all actuality it does. I've realized this and started watching what I listen to. Although it may be difficult sometimes because there is a lot fo music that is good or has a good feel/beat/lyric/etc, but it is still not something that glorifies God, or is positive. I feel like that is the main thing to look for-is the music positive or negative. There are alot of christian bands that don't really sing about God or the bible, although they may hint at it, they just sing positive and encouraging music that makes you feel good and lifts your spirits and soul up. My biggest advice would be just to find music that does that and falls under this category.

I don't believe that music can influence anybody...there are tons of people that listen to music with swearing and yet live christian godly lives. It is possible!

no one said that it's impossible to live a godly life and listen to music with swearing. Personally, i don't even have a problem with swearing.

the thing that bothers me is when the lyrics to a song encourage/approve/promote evil behavior. Saying f*** doesn't necessarily do that.
