  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It’s not how old you are—it’s how much you want it. Do you want to write so much you don’t care how old you are? You don’t care how much money, if any, you’ll ever make? You don’t care if it’s hard work, lonely, and short (at least up to a point) on rewards? Talent, giftedness and training definitely play a role, but drive, commitment and unstoppable determination are just as important. So like I said, it’s not how old you are; it’s how much do you want it?

PS: Happy Birthday!

;) Um, too old??

Yes! You're definitely too old to:
  • Play on a swingset
  • Write with crayons
  • Play kickball
  • etc.
...but too old to write? Absolutely, definitely, utterly, unequivocally, NOT! In fact your best writing years are still in front of you as your experiences in life begin to gel and "make sense."

Happy birthday! :) And Happy First-Day-of-the-rest-of-your-writing-Career!

God bless!

If its any help. I started writing in Jr. High, and was published when I was 44. But that might just mean I'm a really slow learner.

I remember how I felt after college; I just had to get something written and I just had to get it published now if not sooner. And so I'm probably just making you depressed. But I wouldn't suggest giving it up, people can still get published after they reach, or even surpassed, the dreaded three-oh. Otherwise, twenty years from now you'll look back and wonder what you were thinking.

B5

(what was I thinking?)

PS--happy birthday kid.

There is a definite age bias in Hollywood, so if you're starting out by writing movie reviews for major house organs, articles about The Business, or actual screenplays, then you may run into some of that bias. But not at 29. Not at 30.

At 50, maybe.

Other than that sort of youth-worship culture, I can't think of a situation where the writer would be too old.

Hi I hope that age has no input on our requirements to write and publish a novel. I'm 53 am I am writing my first novel. I've gotten good reviews from friends who have allowed authors to read excerpts from the book. So I may INDEED get to be an OLD Author.....Don't think about age. It's our minds that never grow old. And we can use that mind to creat and our experiences that younger people don't understand sometimes. Hang in there. God bless. Let me know how things are going . Hugs Lady Marion

Just do what you love to do. Dont think about how old you get the more you publish the more people will love the books you publish. If you really love to do it dont let your age get in the way of the writing your stories. Most of the authors are oder than you and they still write because they love to do it. and everyone who reads their books cant wait to see what they will come out with next because they know that the authers wont disappoint their fans until they cant do it anymore or die. So dont worry about your age just do what you love to do and have fun with it.

Haha I laughed at the one that said 20s are too young to be published....I was published at 17.

It is NEVER too late to write...just think of all the life experiences you have to go on to write about!!! And psh no you don't need college...zillions of writers never went to college. Writing is an art, something that you cultivate, not something that anyone can really teach you. I suggest looking for good self-publishers. You do have to pay to get self-published, but at least you're published, and most self-publishers will help you get publicity, like to book shows where you meet publishers that want to sign you. A self-publisher is great if you just want to write one book as well, instead of getting signed for 10. It also helps when you send a manuscript into a publisher if you've already been published yourself.

My first book was self-published by Pleasant Word, a division of Winepress Publishing. You might check into what they offer.

Keep writing!!!! =]

Nothing against you personally (I haven't had a chance to read your stuff yet), but a lot of what is published by teen authors is utter and complete rubbish. I've also talked to middle-aged authors with dozens of books under their belts who were published young and regretted it.
