There is a false way of speaking in tongues and a true way of speaking in tongues. The false way is an abomination and is insulting to God and the Christian Church
The Bible tells us that everything must be done in order. Speaking in a tongue that is not interpreted and no one can understand what is said is not in order and is not from the Holy Spirit. It can only be from the devil himself.
Normally I do not advertise what religion I follow but for your sake I will tell you.Symes if you don't mind me asking, what denomination are you ?
WRONG, SDA's do follow the Bible and the Bible only. Your question leaves me a bit lost, please explain more.Symes, SDA does not follow Bible and Bible only. The official website even lets you know this. Where is your Biblical backing for there being a speaking in tongues that is not from God?

Symes, I do not want to turn this thread into a deabte on SDA doctrine, I can show, from the official website that they do not. I am asking, since you claim to be Bible only, where is your backing, in the Bible for saying that tongues can be a work of Satan.
Obviously not all people who speak in tongues are mentally ill, but I do think they are susceptable to a certain psychological pressure, which creates this phenomenon. I believe it can be all explained away in psychological terms and God doesn't come into it anywhere. I witnessed this as a child and it was unpleasant and frightening, just as I would find a witch doctor dancing around his pile of bones or whatever, alarming. I don't think there is any difference in the two actions, just the interpretation that is put on them!
I agree! We should all prophecy!!!!Symes said:
1 Cor 14:5
"5I would like every one of you to speak in tongues,[3] but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues,[4] unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified."
Paul wants us to prophesie, he thinks this is better than speaking in tongues.
Verse 18 says
"18I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue."

I never said it is all the time but today most of the time it is a work of the devil.
First of all, we don't have the power to just say "I want to speak in toungues" and then it happens. It's all in God's timing. My mom wanted the gift of toungues for years, before God gave it to her. Sometimes, when we pray for the gift of toungues, we'll be given it. Other times it might take years. When God decides He wants you to have it, He'll give it to you.Disciple7723 said:The apostle Paul wrote in the book of corinthians that he wished that every one would speak in tongues. I am ready to speak in tongues I want to speak in tongues. How do I go about doing it. Do I just start praising God and The Spirit of God the Holy spirit will it just fall on me. I believe that this language does edify oneself like the apostle paul said. I am ready to edify myself, I am ready to take my praise to another level. How do I go about speaking in tongues, how should the atmosphere be, what are some of your experiences the ones that have spoken in tongues and what did you do. Thank you.
Symes, when you are among anyone other than just yourself(like in a Sunday morning service) and you speak in tounges, then yes, there must be an interpretor. And, in that case, toungues may only be used 3 times. However, if you are alone and you speak in tounges there does not need to be an interpretor since tounges edifies oneself.Symes said:flesh99
