There is a false way of speaking in tongues and a true way of speaking in tongues. The false way is an abomination and is insulting to God and the Christian Church

The Bible tells us that everything must be done in order. Speaking in a tongue that is not interpreted and no one can understand what is said is not in order and is not from the Holy Spirit. It can only be from the devil himself.

Please show us Biblical backing for this statement, as Paul states quite the opposite.

You have made a very interesting comment. It seems to me that you are right from what I have heard others say about it.

I had an experience where a person had severe mental health problems and was very much involved with tongues.

I only ever went to two of their meetings, at one they tried to start it off and when I asked what was being said no one could tell me. Then the speaker came out and said if there were any in the audience that were sick it was because there was sin in their life. What a discouraging way to address those who were sick.

I think that churches which encourage 'speaking in tongues' are actually getting a high from a form of mass hysteria, which has absolutely nothing to do with God, but a lot to do with psychological manipulation of the congregation! If any other faiths went in for this sort of practise you could bet that the good people of the church would be shaking their heads and mumbling 'demonic possession'!

Doctrine !!!!!
My mental health is perfect and I speak in tongues !
My church practices tongues and we are in the beginning of a revival.
There has been a revival in Pensecola for years now and they practice tongues. Come on guys, your opinion is not "your opinion", its your doctrines opinion ! Thats whats wrong with people nowadays, they are afraid of change. They are afraid that people will look at them funny, God's is looking for people they will do the crazy for Him, not the norm. People of faith !! He is not a God of tradition. The reason you have not received tongues is because you have not submitted yourselves to God, if you would have you would allow God to use you in whatever way. You are probably going to say "I have submitted myself", but take a look at yourselves and study the WORD.....not other peoples beliefs !!!!

Symes, SDA does not follow Bible and Bible only. The official website even lets you know this. Where is your Biblical backing for there being a speaking in tongues that is not from God?
WRONG, SDA's do follow the Bible and the Bible only. Your question leaves me a bit lost, please explain more.

Did anybody actually read my last post?

How about I ask another question.. Sinse nobody is up to answering anyways :)
Acts 19:1-6
What happened there? So the Holy Spirit came upon them and then they starting to speak in tongues which is from the devil.. ok.. suddenly makes sense..

I believe we can end this discussion here.

Obviously not all people who speak in tongues are mentally ill, but I do think they are susceptable to a certain psychological pressure, which creates this phenomenon. I believe it can be all explained away in psychological terms and God doesn't come into it anywhere. I witnessed this as a child and it was unpleasant and frightening, just as I would find a witch doctor dancing around his pile of bones or whatever, alarming. I don't think there is any difference in the two actions, just the interpretation that is put on them!

Symes, I do not want to turn this thread into a deabte on SDA doctrine, I can show, from the official website that they do not. I am asking, since you claim to be Bible only, where is your backing, in the Bible for saying that tongues can be a work of Satan.

It is too easy, read 1 Cor. 14

I never said it is all the time but today most of the time it is a work of the devil.

1 Cor 14:5

"5I would like every one of you to speak in tongues,[3] but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues,[4] unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified."

Paul wants us to prophesie, he thinks this is better than speaking in tongues.

Verse 18 says

"18I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue."

I agree! We should all prophecy!!!!

Well said Symes!

Symes 1 Cor 14 never once says that tongues can come from the devil, it just isn't there. In fact that passage more than supports my assertion in that the gifts are practiced incorrectly. I will be glad to go more in depth but you are calling something that is from God, a work of the Devil, I would be careful of that were I you.

The apostle Paul wrote in the book of corinthians that he wished that every one would speak in tongues. I am ready to speak in tongues I want to speak in tongues. How do I go about doing it. Do I just start praising God and The Spirit of God the Holy spirit will it just fall on me. I believe that this language does edify oneself like the apostle paul said. I am ready to edify myself, I am ready to take my praise to another level. How do I go about speaking in tongues, how should the atmosphere be, what are some of your experiences the ones that have spoken in tongues and what did you do. Thank you.
First of all, we don't have the power to just say "I want to speak in toungues" and then it happens. It's all in God's timing. My mom wanted the gift of toungues for years, before God gave it to her. Sometimes, when we pray for the gift of toungues, we'll be given it. Other times it might take years. When God decides He wants you to have it, He'll give it to you.

Hope that helps!

Symes, when you are among anyone other than just yourself(like in a Sunday morning service) and you speak in tounges, then yes, there must be an interpretor. And, in that case, toungues may only be used 3 times. However, if you are alone and you speak in tounges there does not need to be an interpretor since tounges edifies oneself.

To say that if tounges is spoken ANYWHERE and there is no interpretor then tounges is from the devil, is deffinately wrong.

I'm still waiting for answers from my last 2 posts.. but then again maybe they only show up whem I'm browsing the forum ?

And it seem like every scripture I quoted up to know was disregarded?

And I haven't received one scripture back to prove wrong anything I said.. only this shouting about the devil. (without scriptural backing)
I yes symes you can't just throw out a whole chapter like 1 Cor 14 and then make some mad claim. Sorry but for somebody to claim he follow the bible and the bible only you must please give a better reply than that.

Ps.
My Pastor yesterday said: "People don't believe in prophets, but when they meet him he is a false prophet." :D
