This forum seems to very repetitive topic wise. DaVinci Code, Harry Potter, Narnia, Left Behind, and Frank Perretti. Thats all good and well, but there is alot more out there to talk about. So every couple days or so, Im going to start a new thread on an author, maybe pop fiction, maybe classics, whatever. If the disccusion gets anywhere great, if it doesnt no big deal, I will try with someone else. Im just trying to get people talking about other stuff.

Alright, how bout a start with Tom Clancy. I love most of his older stuff, Patriot Games, Hunt For Red October. The Cardinal of the Kremlin being the only older stuff I don't care for. However alot of his newer works seem to be going down hill. Red Rabbit was a boring, slow read....and his newest book was poorly written. Granted, Clancy has never been the best pure writer in the world. He has always been a good story teller though. I hope he gets his act together.

Rainbow 6 was a good read.....so were the early Op Centers
Rainbow Six is one of my favorites, same with Without Remorse. I enjoy Clark's character alot more than Ryan.

My problem with the OP Center books is that most of then were not written by Clancy, they just have his name on them.

Thank you for breaking the horrid repetition.

Loved Executive Orders, as well as Debt of Honor, but that was not nearly as pulsating a book (especially since I read Executive Orders beforehand and knew what the entire climax, the entire point of Debt of Honor was).

I don't think the Power Plays, Net Force, or Op-Center books were written by Clancy. Although I haven't read any of the Power Plays, Net Force would be my favorite.

But they all pale in comparison to the books Clancy actually wrote.

Your welcome. Sometimes I think Clancy is to drawn out in his plot lines. But once he reaches the climax, he does a great job with it.

I love how the smallest things sprout into something that becomes so big you almost think it's real.

Oh, yeah. I started to read The Hunt for Red October a while back. I couldn't get through it. It's hard to believe that a book like that kicked off his career.

I went on a Clancy binge a few years ago and read Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger & The Hunt for Red October back to back and loved them but for some reason I never read anything else by him.

If your looking for a good Clancy book that can be read on its own I would suggest Without Remorce, followed by Rainbow Six. Those are both very fun reads.

Cool, thanks. Actually, one of the major stumbling blocks to reading another of his books was not knowing which to read w/o getting out of sequence.

I loved rainbow 6, i was disappointed by the bear and the dragon, and since did not continue to read his books. I am sure there are several that I am missing out on though, let me know ;)

Yeah there are alot you are missing out on...ok here is the order that his fictional novels were written in
(I think)
The Hunt for Red October
Red Storm Rising
Patriot Games
The Cardinal of the Kremlin
Clear and Present Danger
The Sum of All Fears
Without Remorse
Debt of Honor
Executive Orders
Rainbow Six
The Bear and the Dragon
Red Rabbit
Teeth of the Tiger

Red Storm Rising is not part of the series. The rest use many of the same characters either focusing on Ryan or Clarke.

That was the order they were written. this is the order they take place..I think

Without Remorse
Red Rabbit
Patriot Games
Hunt for Red October
Cardinal of the Kremlin
Clear and Present Danger
The Sum of All Fears
Executive Orders
Rainbow Six
The Bear and the Dragon
Teeth of the Tiger

I would suggest reading them in one of the above two orders.
