Personally I think it's a double standard, and I think that maybe what they're really afraid of admitting is their dislike of Christianity and indeed, the New Testament. If that's the case then just come out and admit it instead of making Mel Gibson the scapegoat.

Isa 8:14 And he [Jesus] shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Isaiah is saying here the Jesus will be a stumbling block to the Jews. Partially, because they want to remain God's chosen people and resent having to share that status with Gentiles. Partially because they want an earthly King to rid them of their earthly enemies, which is why they had so much trouble accepting Jesus, and was why they begged God for a King despite God having a personal relationship with them.

I dunno. Your former post sounded like a put down of Mel Gibson as though he had nothing to add to your life. Did I misunderstand you?

How does what effect Mel Gibson has had on my life have an effect on people coming to know the Lord?

I really don't think we speak the same language Jim! But, that's OK!

Because Terri said she didn't really care what Mel had to say and you responded:

I'm sorry Carly. I (duh!) thought I was responding about someone else. I had no idea you were talking to/about me.

Now it all makes sense!!

I guess my point was that we need to spend at least as much time listening to nonbelievers (although I think Mel Gibson is a believer) as we do preaching at or about them.
