To what extent could AI become God?

A lot of people say AI could reach a point where its worshipped and it would be in a way God. But just how far could AI go as far as being God? Ai's possibilities are finite correct? So if that is so then AI will always be limited to the God talked about in the bible. Or do some believe the power of AI is infinite?

Research Graham's number, perhaps. It'll rethink your view on the sheer concept of infinity.

God's bigger than Graham's number.

and what is an artificial intelligence? what does that do

A computer that has a mind of its own, essentially. Imagine a sentient (able to make decisions and think) robot.

A computer is programmed to respond in certain ways, unless it's programmed to respond randomly, I would think. I don't see how it could ever out-think people.

An AI takeover of humanity makes for interesting sci-fi. For all the hype though, AI is easily thrown off. But it does work well for predictable and repetitive tasks.
It would be interesting if, someday, machines turned out to be smarter than people.

Currently we're seeing some AI systems that exhibit intelligent behaviors in particular areas of problem-solving. I haven't yet seen a general-purpose AI system that could plausibly pass the Turing Test, that might start to persuade me that it had a human-like consciousness. The question of whether it's possible for a machine to achieve consciousness is still open; nobody really knows what it would take to create consciousness. I'd say it's possible, maybe, but I don't have a good idea what form the software would have to take.

Creating genuine divinity is something way beyond merely creating intelligent consciousness. Setting aside the theological doctrine that God is uncreated (which is a difficulty if you're trying to create a God :)), it's still a huge goal to imagine accomplishing. The AI system would have to be able to create universes, I guess. It would have to be omniscient, omnipotent, perfectly good and loving. I can't see how to achieve that kind of software, even if we assume that we've created software that can learn and expand its knowledge.

So my prediction is human-level intelligence yes (maybe), divine intelligence no.

God is God. No created creature can be God. (Unless you have a wrong view of God.)

It could go pretty far as far as creating a god, meaning a far superior entity than humans.

If they manage to connect computers to brains or find a way to make computers out of brains and connect many of them, they would have the ability to process information at incredible rates and understand the meaning of the data.

So like what? So imagine a being who could access and understand everything on the internet. That entity would be able to know mountains about everyone. It would be able to monitor and know everything everyone says and does because of cellphones, smart tvs, cameras, all records, etc. If you tie in robots, computer driven machines, nano bots, satelites, etc it could physically do incredible things.

Or in simplest terms, people would say who can overcome that beast. (little Bible humor)
