I was watching this video by Gavin Ortlund on his YouTube channel "Truth Unites."

I respect Gavin a lot.

However, I don't think AI will EVER be "conscious."

AI is for sure dangerous, but do you think AI could ever become conscious?

I doubt that.

I think AI will be like the Star Trek version of it. It will answer questions and do things it's programmed to do. If it's programmed to take over the world and destroy mankind, then it might be capable of doing so.

You don't have to program AI to destroy mankind to make it destroy mankind.

You only have to instruct AI to expand at maximum efficiency. It doesn't even need to be conscious nor sentient.

No, AI cannot become conscious because it functions like a mirror. It’s sophisticated, but ultimately, it simply reflects existing data and synchronises it. The tools that we have that we commonly call AI is not AI properly speaking — it’s more like a sophisticated search engine with memory. But even if it can’t become self aware, there are still dangers and potential for abuse, so while it can be a helpful tool, it’s good to use it critically.

I don't think ai can become conscious in the human sense, but it will process so fast it will have the appearance of it.

However, I think the real problem is who will be doing what with the ai; that is, which government of the world will gain hegemony over all others by using it. Whether or not ai can become conscious is the least of our worries.

I believe God gives us humans consciousness, which comes from God who is spiritual.

But AI is a physical structure, made by humans who can not spiritually give it life.

Will it have a conscience? This will depend on who is working it.

But, another thing > even if some wrong person got to using AI, that one would not be able to keep it all going, for maintenance and other items. It could start like a new car, but later . . . there would be things the starters would not be able to handle, plus there might be economic factors of whether or not there could be enough trained people and money needed for correcting more and more complicated problems.

It would depend on electricity. I suppose ones could stop the electricity . . . or somehow interfere with solar energizing, maybe by spreading smoke over the solar panels.

Just in the United States with about three hundred and thirty million people . . . it could have a hard time controlling all the people in various locations, with various cultures. It would have to have cooperation. And we could cherry-pick when and with what we cooperated.

"Test all things; hold fast what is good.' (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
