This is nothing new. You walk down the street in a Kippah, and you recieve the same behavior, even from some christians who are bent on offensive missionary efforts based on subpar knowledge of Judaism. You just get used to it. After all, are we really supposed to get so comfortable living in Galut?

Yochanan
You have hit the nail on the head. If I could rep you I would. Anti-Semitism (or more properly anti-Judaism) exists for the sole purpose of driving the Jewish people to HaShem. When life in Galut becomes too easy we assimilate and lose our unique identity. And when we do, anti-Judaism is right there to remind us of who we are.

Everyone gets a beating by the atheists, agnostics and others in the non-Christian forum.
I don't think many Jews are bothered by this.

No, its the heckling from christians, and ore yet, the Staff (on occasion). That's the bothersome part.

why is Christian heckling more offensive? (just curious... I can't see how there would be a difference... though I have to admit it does seem strange that christians would go to the NC area so they could disagree)

This is basically what I was referring to. I have, since being here, noticed this is allowed in that section, sometimes it overflows to here, but in that other part it seems it's like the guards in a prison, they turn the other way, because they feel the same even though the rules say that it isn't allowed.

I just don't want you all to think that all believers in Yeshua as Messiah are the same way.

One big reason; Yeshua gave the Christian what they call the "Golden Rule". For a Christian claim Christianity and act like the devil is unbecoming to say the least!

Also known as "Hillel's Golden Rule" ;)

Once there was a gentile who came before Shammai, and said to him: "Convert me on the condition that you teach me the whole Torah while I stand on one foot. Shammai pushed him aside with the measuring stick he was holding. The same fellow came before Hillel, and Hillel converted him, saying: That which is despicable to you, do not do to your fellow, this is the whole Torah, and the rest is commentary, go and learn it."

I want to know how it is that a thread pops up here that is controversial all of the sudden there are a bunch of posters we never see otherwise! Where do they come from? How do they know? Are people sniffing around for hot posts? Or do people go around saying, "Hey, you'll never guess what those MJ's are talking about now."

I'm referring to yesterday. There were a couple hot topics and suddenly we had people who actually posted. There was one atheist I've never seen before (nothing against atheists, but he stuck out to me) and there was at least one other. This isn't the only time that has happened.

L^_^ L! You sort of are. And you have made yourself well known as being respectful. I'm not talking about new people to the forum. (Hi. That'd be me.) I mean people who obviously come over here only to join in the fun of getting into heated dramas.

Oh, so that's OK then, is it? Well I'm glad I know! I naturally thought staff were above such things and were all believers- I'm clearly mistaken. It must be a case of don't do as I do, do as I say. :o

Was that a partial line from a certain John Cleese show?

You seem to refer to the duties of the staff an awful lot in your posts. Perhaps you should come on board and try it out. It's not easy. You get everything thrown at you- many untruths too!

PLEASE, I'm begging you....stop slagging the staff. We do our best. Be on our side! We want that.

Please don't mis-interpret or make fun of my words- sarcasm doesn't work- this isn't an episode of Fawlty Towers or some other Pommie comedy, OK gov'? :). If you have an issue, just pm me or whoever- we don't bite. We are your support, not your enemy.

To clear this up- I don't think it is ok to badger other believers- but I've been around long enough to know that it happens. I'm not a moderator of the whole of the forum, just little bits. Whatever happens over there I cannot do much about- it is up to individuals involved to report posts they don't like. We merely moderate, we do not rule over.

We are not talking about those groups; them I expect it from.
It's Muslims, Buddhists (some of them are the worst, believe
it or not) and Christians.

It may happen to other people to, but it does not make it right.
And them often seem to delight in taking extra digs at Jews.

But their hate and ignorance is their problem to deal with not mine,
other than reporting an extremely virulent post.

ChavaK, we all get it from someone. We are all someone's heretic. Not so long ago, certain Rabbinic Jews at CF said some dreadful things to the Christians. I don't believe anyone can honestly play the discrimination card here. After all, it's religion- lots of diverse opinions and harsh words will happen, just like in discussing politics. It takes a lot of maturity to get through it sometimes.

If a poster is slightly offended, he or she should give the benefit of the doubt, try to deal with it civilly or just ignore the post. If a poster is highly offended, they should report it. What a person should try to avoid is to feel victimised- it's a waste of energy. It isn't a perfect system, but it does work by and large.

I can easily say from experience, its not that hard. It takes little time from one's real life, and as long as you stay impartial the majority will back you up. Occasionally, the rabid hate-patrol goes out of whack, but mostly the general populace sees those individuals for what they are, which makes the mod job much easier.

Everyone will hate you at one point or another, this is true... but it always blows over, and it is never more than one or two at a time.

While a mod I thought it was tough... but after leaving the position, I realized it was a pretty easy job overall.

Which is just what I said to try and defuse the situation and I got a fairly naf response from the staff in my view!

I was merely encouraging the complainant to report the matter if they didn't like it - that was ALL I said about it - which is exactly what you are now saying. I didn't knock the staff and I didn't assume that any one member of the staff should be responsible for any one thread so I am at a loss to know why I got the naf reponse.

No it was not a take on John Cleese (I do not know his work well enough to do that) and I am NOT a pommie! Please do not add insult to your other naf comments. If you do not want me on the Forum then say so - it's your call.

Please tell me (and others on this thread) in how many posts I have actually attacked the staff - I an intrigued that you keep records or even bother to count such trivial things.

If being a Moderator means you have to address people in this way then, thanks for the invite but I'll let it pass - I couldn't cope with my conscience in having to do the job.
