Looking at the teachings of John in comparision with the teachings of Paul, I am finding it hard to understand the concepts and contexts in which these two passages may or may not apply to us as believers:

2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

Titus 2:15
These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

but then, at the very end of the Bible

Revelation 22:11
Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do right; and let him who is holy continue to be holy.

Revelation 22:11 is saying without the "words of the prophecy of this book", let he who is unjust be unjust, he who is filthy be filthy. Those who reject the prophecy will remain filthy and unjust until they believe. There is nothing we can do other than proclaim the prophecy.

Revelation 22:7"Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book." Those who believe in the prophecy will be saved eternally and are holy and righteous through Christ.

Verse 10 says, "Do not steal the words of the prophecy of this book." This means we must not hide the prophecy of the book but proclaim it as the true word of God.

So in closing, I don't think Rev. 22:11 goes against the teachings of Paul and John at all but reaffirms that we MUST proclaim the word and that those who deny will die in their sins and will remain filthy and unjust not only for this life but for eternity.

What is the difference between judging and rebuking according to Scripture? Are Christians today supposed to judge and rebuke, and if so under what conditions and to whom? Does it matter if the person you are either judging or rebukin is saved or lost?

concordance time... :)
2Timothy 4:2- word 2008 new testament, to censure or admonish
Titus 2:15- is the same, definition of the word rebuke.

Dictionary Online definition of Admonish-1. to caution, advise, or counsel against something.
2. to reprove or scold esp. in a mild and good willed manner eg. The teacher admonished him about excessive noise.
3.to urge to a duty, remind eg. to admonish them about their obligations

Judgment means you scold then provide sentence or discipline. It is God's place to do this, as we are but human and cannot be responsible in our judgment, we are easily swayed and corrupted. Don't believe me? read the old testament, particularly Genesis through to Ruth, before the Kings. God however see's all, knows all, and created all, He is the only being that can justly judge.

I believe the verse in Revelation is not a contradiction. We can talk to some people about Christianity till our faces turn blue and they will not have it. I think, in my humble opinion, that the verse is talking those that have heard and not changed. It is saying let the man who has heard choose his way, then reap the consequences of their chosen and informed actions. make sense?
