I am trying to put myself in the shoes of a Charismatic, to understand his point of view. As I have concluded, I believe tongues are a known foreign language, but this is not a salvation issue.
So I am fine with others who think otherwise, since I used to think like them too.
Then you are NOT a WoF person? From your posts I got the impression that you were.
Well... the context DOES tell us the OPPOSITE.Tongues are definitely known languages and not todays charismatic babbling we see everywhere which is a cheap imitation.
And like Paul said ;
"I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue. "
charismatic's would have us believe just the OPPOSITE lol..........
and he likens that way of thinking to that of INFANTS.
duh because the hearer doesn't understand them keep reading the contextWell... the context DOES tell us the OPPOSITE.
1 Corinthians 14:18-19
I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 But in the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue.
Keep reading? Okay.duh because the hearer doesn't understand them keep reading the context
oops I forgot you like single verses instead of the context.............
and they ceased prior to 2 cor being written, no book in the NT mention the gift that stopped giving after .................Keep reading? Okay.
The Apostle says, "... do not forbid speaking in tongues."
What do you say?
1 Corinthians 14:39
Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.
Like I said before, speaking in tongues was part of the church after Pentecost. No use writing about it when it becomes an everyday thing. Where's the news?and they ceased prior to 2 cor being written, no book in the NT mention the gift that stopped giving after .................
next........................................
for Pentecostals it is but not for the rest of us.Like I said before, speaking in tongues was part of the church after Pentecost. No use writing about it when it becomes an everyday thing. Where's the news?
However, I did find this for you. The term "pray in the Spirit" is a reference to tongues.
Compare 1 Corinthians below.
Ephesians 6:18
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Compare:
1 Corinthians 14:14-15
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. 15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.
I just proved you wrong. Is that all you have to say? (scripture for tongues after 1 Cor.)for Pentecostals it is but not for the rest of us.
eph 6 is not tongues you made that upI just proved you wrong. Is that all you have to say? (scripture for tongues after 1 Cor.)

Before we get too far into the weeds, what does all of this have to do with cessation vs continuation?I just proved you wrong. Is that all you have to say? (scripture for tongues after 1 Cor.)
MORE HAIRSPLITTING!!!!!!!!!eph 6 is not tongues you made that up
If there are no tongues after 1 Cor. then it is Cessationism. Before we get too far into the weeds, what does all of this have to do with cessation vs continuation?
an argument from silence since the gift is never mentioned after 1 corIf there are no tongues after 1 Cor. then it is Cessationism.
If there ARE tongues after 1 Cor. then it is Continuationism.
Yes, we know what Cessationism and Continuationism are. However, the question asked what all the wrangling over the meaning of "pray in the Spirit" has to do with the topic of this thread, which is "to Cease or to Continue?"If there are no tongues after 1 Cor. then it is Cessationism.
If there ARE tongues after 1 Cor. then it is Continuationism.
Praying in the Spirit is tongues. See 1 Corinthians 14:14-15an argument from silence since the gift is never mentioned after 1 cor
I'm sorry that it is not obvious to you.Yes, we know what Cessationism and Continuationism are. However, the question asked what all the wrangling over the meaning of "pray in the Spirit" has to do with the topic of this thread, which is "to Cease or to Continue?"
no because JESUS always prayed in the spirit and NEVER in tongues.Praying in the Spirit is tongues. See 1 Corinthians 14:14-15
Ephesians six eighteen uses the term "pray in the Spirit", therefore tongues.
