The Lord's Table is a place for Catholics to fellowship and discuss theology, beliefs, and issues from a primarily liberal or left wing point of view. This is not a forum for the separate Liberal Catholic Church not in union with Rome. This is also not a forum to discuss political threads in the absence of theology. Such threads belong in the OBOB Politics forum. Political topics which intersect with Catholic theology may be discussed here.

This forum is for discussion of all aspects of the faith, and the challenges of remaining faithful in our modern world. Although the teachings of the Church are clear that certain issues are non-negotiable, discussion of why things are what they are is not forbidden. For example, while abortion and homosexual acts may not be promoted, it is acceptable to discuss how society should respond to those controversial issues.

Struggling is not dissent. Thinking and asking why is not dissent. We are here to discuss with each other, fellowship, and enrich the walk each of us has with Christ and the Catholic Church. While not everyone here may agree with all the dogmas, traditions, or hierarchy of the Catholic Church, everyone here is expected to show a measure of respect to them.

Visitors are welcome to share and participate in discussions with us. However, visitors must do so respectfully. This forum does not exist as a place for visitors to come and debate contentiously over why they disagree with us. If you are are a visitor and you would like to learn more about our viewpoints or beliefs, or perhaps you just want to understand how we feel about a specific issue, then you are welcome. But this is not a place to teach us the errors of our ways.

For the purposes of this forum, a Catholic is anyone who has been baptized and/or confirmed in the Catholic Church and self-identifies as a Catholic. Do not state or imply that another poster who has identified himself or herself as Catholic, is not in reality truly a Catholic Christian because of their stated beliefs or practices. Do not state or imply that any member is under threat of excommunication for his or her stated beliefs.

This area allows for what would normally be considered by Rome dissent from the teachings the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. However this must be done respectfully in relation to Catholic Teachings and members of the Magisterium. The limit on this would be where the conversation violates other CF rules. If you are looking for the Catholic area that posts in accordance with Rome please visit One Bread One Body.
