That's a popular view, but scripturally in both testaments I see the poor giving financially - I don't think it should take the place of finances, that could be used as a copout by some.
Jesus was pleased with the woman who gave her mite when she had nothing. He didn't run & tell her to keep it becuz she had so little. She was investing in God's kingdom.
I won't judge people over it, but God will becuz He knows our hearts and finances. People will have to do self examination to decide what their own motives are, if there's selfishness or greed actually involved.
I don't know.
Of course Malachi tells us to tithe, and we of course tithe our money. But do you "tithe" your time? being in the house of worship on Sunday is not enough. We should "tithe" our time to others as well. He gives time to us, in the care of us, why can't you give some time to the Lord for others? Take some time to set aside for Jesus. On your lunch break instead of having a back biting tongue for your boss or another co-worker, talk to Jesus soon as you wake , give praise to God by a simple "thank you" for waking you , while your in the shower , let God know how thankful you are to either have been baptized or just to have been made clean by the Blood of the lamb, on line at the store ,give him praise for being able to have finances to buy food. Take some time for the Lord in speaking life to someone's situations .Take some time to minister to someone's heart in getting them closer to Jesus. Sometimes we may not have any money due to all different types of circumstances and you may feel like your not living in the will of God if you don't have money to give, give your 10% of your time to others instead. God WILL supply you with your hearts desires if your genuine and not just looking for him to do something for you . Spread God's love to others. I used to feel at one time , that "how can I be living in God's will if I'm not a tither, because I don't have any money?" Little did I know that if I just stayed faithful in the Lord and tithed my time to him , while I was waiting for our finances to be blessed, I would've been fine at that time. Instead I became worried, bitter, and discouraged etc. None were a spirit of God and I couldn't understand it at all because I was the type before I was saved, that I felt like "I'm paying God" to take care of me, boy was I ignorant. God didn't need my money , he needed ME . He needed me to be the woman of God he called me to be. I'm so glad that we have a God of second chances,3rd,4th and 5th chances. After all " what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul."
God wants you to give him quality time with him and of course with others. Notice when you ask a child if they have any fond memories of when they were growing up , they say things like " I remember when Grandma used to take us for ice cream every Thursday and play with us outside" it's usually not "I remember when Grandma would buy us an expensive pair of sneakers." It's the time that is always needed because we run out of it so fast and of course what do you do with that time definitely counts.
Again , tithe your time to the will of God . The kingdom of God does benefit what you've done because when the praises go up the blessings come down , as the song goes. Make some part of your day building the kingdom of God by "tithing" your time today !!! When I say you can tithe your time as well, this is what I mean...I don't believe it's a copout... and if you read #18 you will see where I stand, when it comes to tithing. God Bless you
