  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Compassion and world Vision are two good Christian organizations with financial accountability. You could donate periodically or adopt a foster child in a third world country.

God Bless

Have you heard of Christian Children's Fund seekthetruth? We sponsor a child through them. They seem to be a good organization.

I am considering restarting my tithing and I'm just curious about how others who are unchurched go about tithing/offering money. Do you still give financially in some form? If you do, how so?

More specifically do you ensure you give only to organisations who are explicitely christian, or will you give to organisations who will, for example, feed the poor but are secular? Or do you skip organisations entirely and just look out for those in your local community who could use a hand?
To tithe does not mean that you must give 10%, it means to give all that you have for the kingdom of God.

I know this is an old topic but I was looking for info on tithing and this was the first one....

Our church we have been going to for a couple months has preached twice on tithing. The pastor said when members of his congegation have financial problems the first thing he asks is "Are you paying your tithes?" He then went on to suggest how God witholds blessings if you don't tithe, and this was all tied in with the Malachi verses of course.
My wife and I have have been having some pretty hard difficulties. Debt from old student loans, a hospital bill when she was pregnant, we lost 12,000 to a companies bad business decisions this summer, got hit recently with a hidden fee when ordering something which caused over $200 in overdraft charges that I had to argue about, and my wife is laid off 6 days this month...

Ok, wah, wah wah..... but you know I CANNOT EVEN TALK TO THE ELDERS OF OUR CHURCH about any of this!

Last Sunday one of the assitant preachers preached and he read the 10 commandments. When he got to "thou shalt not steal" he immediately went into a tirade that if we do not pay our tithes we are breaking this commandment and are a thief because Malachi says "will a man rob God?" Talk about being kicked when you're down. Of course the preacher didn't know our situation, but that wouldn't have stopped their beliefs about tithing.

I happen to agree with most of what's being said in this thread. In fact I'd love to copy most of the posts. I've felt this way for several years. In fact I don't even like the passing of the collection plate. I've been in only 2 churches out of several where the plate was never passed but sat on a table near the entry of the church and people were never pressured to "give." Yet checks and cash were placed in the plate weekly.

I am so sorry sister for what you have been taught. In fact, it is not you or somebody else in that particular church who are stealing from God, but they who have been teaching these things to all of you. Sometimes I wonder how could they dare and cheat on God and God's people. But, they have already received their reward.

Tithing is for the Levites.

Be a better steward. Give interpersonaly.
Support people, not institutions. Nourish living stones, not property maintenance & overhead obligations.

Flee churchianity. Joined the ecclesia (called out ones) not the establishment. Share in His sufferings "outside the camp"
Study & show yourself approved, don't just sit still for someone to tell you what to believe.

God bless your concerned hearts (nice pic).
