The tithe isn't about giving , either . It is about paying something according to a law .
This is the problem when discussing "tithes" . There are several definitions being used at the same time . And , sometimes , a poster will be discussing the term with a couple of those definitions in one post .
That's the first I've heard of a church charging club dues.
The church has, as its primary source of income, tithes offered by the congregation. While the tithe was law in the OT, Christ declared it as a form of worship, not mandatory, in the NT. I'm sure that when Christians discuss tithes they refer to it as described in the NT. Any reference to the OT is to identify the 10% rule, and not the spirit of giving and willingness to sacrifice.
