• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

ok i consider myself a Christian. but a much more open minded Christian. i dont see why there is such a negative attitude about sex. i know what the bible says about it but that was SUCH a long time ago. i know that doesnt make everything ok though. like i think that homosexuality is perfectly fine. i think everyone should be bisexual. why can't someone be homo/bisexual. "because it says so in the bible". i'm sorry but thats not a very good reason... and why is touching yourself so "wrong"? it is human nature to explore our sexual sides and to have sexual desires. if anyone could explain this to me i'd appreciate it

Well, we have to consider God's word infallible. In Timothy, it says that ALL scripture is God-breathed, so we can't pick and choose what we want to consider and what we don't want to consider. Granted, there are laws that we do not adhere too today from the OT, but that is because most of us are Gentile believers rather than Messianic Jews. Remember the Gentile believers did not receive the written code of the Jews, who were God's chosen people. That doesn't mean that many of those laws aren't good like Not murdering or committing adultery (which our hearts are convicted not to do in the Spirit). See our "law" now is the Holy Spirit. However, since homosexuality and others specific sins are mentioned in the NT, we must adhere to them. We do have access to the original Greek text and also consider the original plan for mankind. It is difficult, I know because I am a Christian guy that struggles with same sex attraction, but I also recognize that I am not a creature of flesh and blood that is out to satisfy the cravings of the flesh, including sexuality, but I am a new creation--a SPIRITUAL creation. Our hearts should be on God in the Holy Spirit, and our identities should not revolve around sex, whether it be hetero, homo, or bi. Keep in mind, it is very hard for me to swallow that pill too, considering my situation, but do I listen to what the world tells me or listen to my heart, which is according to the bible, something that we cannot trust. We can't trust how we "feel" or else my faith would be nothing. How many times do we "feel" God sitting next to us? Therefore, we must turn to God and his Word in order to understand and determine right from wrong. I do believe loving someone of the same sex is not wrong at all. It is the acts that are sinful according to the Bible.

The church has not been all that comfortable with sex for many centuries. There is still far too much shame associated with human sexuality. Many then fit their doctrines of sexuality around their inner experiences of shame and embarrassment.

What is important is to distingush sexual moral values from our natural human sexuality. Scriptures give us the basis of our moral values, but all too often any sexual component of our lives is overlaid with some moral pronouncement, which can be confusing and sometimes just plain wrong.

If you "consider"yourself a Christian, you are or you are not. There is no middle ground. Secondly, if you like to think of yourself as open minded, you need to to go to the Word and other Christians that can help you discern what the word and will of God is in any situation. Are you doing that? If you are not feeding yourself on the bible, then we have no alternative but to cling to wordly reason which may and often does contradict what God says. God is not a liar but plenty of people are. Therefore it's easy to be confused.

Well, in regards to sex, Song of Solomon is the best kept secret in the bible.
Puritan attitudes about sex are not biblical.
I dont' have a problem with masturbation.

I love homosexuals as much as anyone else. One of the sweetest girls I know is here and she's lesbian.

I understand how someone can come to think that. But I have question have you even studied Roman society? A good historian would list rampant homosexuality as one of the reasons for the collapse of the Romans empire. Isn't it interesting that homosexuality was more prevalent then than now. Men openly slept with boys and it was accepted by society. We may think we are modern but are we? History repeats itself as one said long ago. The Bible calls us to a higher standard of living. Sister The bible says that love of the world is enmity with God. Your idea of being modern and stuff is just to avoid any opposition from the world. Iam serous and I do not mean to be offensive. Jesus told us to deny ourselves the things you have spoken of fall into that category

1 How beautiful you are, my darling!
Oh, how beautiful!
Your eyes behind your veil are doves.
Your hair is like a flock of goats
descending from Mount Gilead.

The original poster brings up some good points, but I'm not sure this is the right forum to be arguing this kind of stuff? Because of that I'm not going weigh in on this discussion.

Homosexuality may have been rampant, but I would not attribute that to its decline.

Of course, technically speaking, if one is to take a good look at scripture, same sex relationships themselves aren't the problem, same-sex sex is. You are fine as long as you live like a celibate hermit. But enough of my logic.

Agreed, the purpose of this forum is to support and help those in need.

look at the actions in themselves, do they lead you closer to God or farther away?

I think that is part of the problem with masturbation. It is when people turn in on themselves. God is sort of taken out of the equation.

The goal of our life is union with God, this would imply being close to him. If they do not send you closer, they move you farther away. I don't know the verse number of hand, but Jesus does say if you are not for me you are against me. Most stuff works the same way. It brings us closer to Christ or takes us away.

Just my thoughts.

p.s. the whole bit also breaks a whole bunch of rules, but others have already hit on those well enough. :)
