So there is no opportunity for forgiveness?

How can there be forgiveness without confession?

People don't need to to confess sins they have not committed. People don't need to be forgiven for sins they have not committed.

The other half of that picture of reconciliation is for the other party to realize, "You were not the person who harmed me, so I have nothing against you."

But repudiation and separation from those who did commit the sin is necessary.

Right, but a formal apology would go a long way...

From what I've watched .... the reformation is being presented as a big "mistake" (misunderstanding) from the current pope ... but he doesn't define who made the "mistake" (misunderstanding) .... nor of the reasons why the evil of the dark ages happened. They did indeed happen and violence (severe persecution) was led about by the Church in the name of God (that's unchangeable history) ..... there are many doctrinal differences between catholic teaching and protestant teaching and that will never change totally .... protestants will and do compromise their faith .... but not all of them will .... the sheep are scattered throughout the world and transcends all earthly church systems ... but there will be a remnant.

Isaiah 28:5

In that day the Lord of hosts will be a crown of glory, and a diadem of beauty, to the remnant of his people

I look forward to His return. Amen!
