Thanks to nukes it is no longer necessary to have a large population for a nation to exist. I propose the U.S. Constitution be dissolved and 50 nations be formed under the Articles of Confederation. The possessions can be freed to do whatever they will.

The smallest state populationwise is Wyoming. There are about 70 countries with a population less than them that seem to be existing just fine without nukes.

You know, I'm really not for anyone who is going to go anywhere near what started the civil war.

But if the states disintegrated and relied on nukes for security, I'm assuming you no longer have a unified military. What then would stop the middle east from exploding, nuclear war between Pakistan and India, China annihilating Taiwan etc. etc. As much as I dislike current US foreign policy, the world still needs you. If you take your ball and go home the world will descend into anarchy. And if enough of the world goes nuclear, sitting behind your protective nukes isn't going to help you when dealing with a collapsed world economy and global nuclear fallout.

I pledge allegiance to the Republic of the United States of America, one Nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Or at least I hope in time.

My hats off to you sir.
Anyhow, I think this would be silly. It does though remind me of some article I read in The Nation

Won't happen soon. Robert C. Byrd hasn't yet named every road, park, reserach center, library, college and other public building in West Virginia after himself.

Of course, if the Federal government were dissolved, Robert C. Byrd could continue naming things after himself as a state Senator. But then the people of West Virginia themselves would have to foot the bill for everything he named after himself and I don't think they would do it.

Red states would go broke when they stopped getting their interstate welfare payments from the blue states.

True that.

It would be painful to watch most of the red states implode.
