Sorry, boss, but that's one of those infirmities and strengths of democracy; it does, in fact, adapt to changes in local conditions. Otherwise, I totally miss your point, and I apologize.

I think you missed my point, if the demographics of a nation change to quickly then the core demographic that founded this nation is slowly erroded away by the immigrants with 10 kids that are flooding our nation and swinging the vote just because they out number us not because they share our values or are as equally productive as the "core demographic". You can call it adaptation, I call it the beginnings of the fall of a great nation. I guess if my taxes dont go up as a result of 10 mexican kids per woman then I dont care as long as I can get top notch care by a good physician as a good engineer to complete the circle. I dont think german is to tough of a language to learn in 10 to 20 years when america is flooded by uneducated degenerate mexicans who are relying upon the existing united states demograpics to support them, when that support runs out becaue people become fed up either the mexicans will be expunged or the intellegant productive members of the free world will go elsewhere and the USA will become a second world nation. We shall see what happens in 20 years, maybe im totally off my rocker, maybe not. I hope they pass legislation that just becasue your born here does not make you a citzen unless your mother and father are both citzens, I think its total crap that if your born here your a citizen they should ship you off with all the rest, good riddens, save our school rooms and hospital space for thoes that deserve it, thoes that are of the original demographic. I would go straight balistic if I could not get into a hospital because 60 mexicans were clogging up the system.

John Locke, I think that Rppearson has a point, though, that it can create a cultural crisis.

Think of it this way -- not in terms of whether it is racist or whether it is ethnocentric or bias against Mexicans -- what if tens of millions of Americans & Canadians began flooding into Iraq or Saudi Arabia? India or Thailand?

It would cause a dramatic incident because of the clash of cultural interests. Americans are far more liberal than Saudis and Iraqis, and this would cause social unrest when Americans wanted to consume alcohol, and naturally the native population would oppose us in doing it. It would also cause dramatic unrest if the Americans moved to Thailand en masse -- we are far more conservative, and our desire to legislate against unregulated gambling & prostitution would turn Thai society on its' head.

Those are extreme instances, and the results would be very extreme.

Now in a situation where our societies are a bit different, but not entirely, still poses problems.

Too much Mexican immigration causes cultural strife in the sense that they do have different values -- Anglo-Americans prioritize very differently from Mexican-Americans, and the large language barrier between us and the resistance of Mexicans to learning English, their creation of Mexican barrios within American cities and lack of desire to integrate, results in issues for our country.

They are issues that cannot be denied, and if you are pro-immigration, it would be best for you to brainstorm how these issues can be fixed.

But: Every country I am aware of has limits on the numbers of immigrants they allow into their country to avoid the "entire U.S. population moves to Baghdad" problem.

I further suggest that we have a different appreciation or estimation of the risks of such social chaos. If it comes to pass, as the demographics suggest, that in the not too distant future that America becomes a society in which no racial or ethnic group holds a majority, then so what?

In my research into the "immigration issue" many immigrant families are "fully integrated" after a generation or two, so much so that many of these families are no longer fluent in the language of their grandparent's nation of origin.

As far as ethnic enclaves, barrios, gated communities etc. The tendency to self segregate into communities with people of similar language, economic status, religion, nation of origin, even political views has existed and is likely to continue to exist for the foreseeable future.

Call me a "pie in the sky idealist" but I just don't see the teeming hordes of folks emigrating to this country for the purposes of imposes a foreign social/political/economic system. I dare say that the overwhelming majority of folks who do come to this country come to it to enjoy the "blessings of liberty and opportunity" afforded to people here, rather than the other way 'round.

That only stops the immigrants that you want to come into your country from coming in. IE the ones that are willing to follow the laws.

Its not a big deal as long as you are willing to shoulder the financial burden, I personally am not. If taxes get to out of hand (the skilled minority) will take there skills else where, where there quality of life can reflect there skills (ie doctors, engineers, etc). The towns that are already starting to see this are the border town hospitals where doctors are getting fed up with treating mexicans who cant pay for anything and its back logging clinics for thoes that are citizens and do have a means of paying for there heath care. Its not a matter of "opinion" its a matter of reality. You will have a use for my opinion when you son or daughter is getting a substandard education because the schools are over crowded or when your son cant see a doctor because there are to many mexicans (legal or otherwise) that are backing up the system becasue they get government coverage.

Another ill of this country is government housing being built in nice neighborhoods, degrading the value of your home and causing you to worry more about you daughter being raped because a bunch of degenerates are walking your streets. There is a reason class separation occures, and putting up government housing in a nice neighborhood is a smack in the face to thoes that worked hard to separate themselves from crime and violence.

Thanks to nukes it is no longer necessary to have a large population for a nation to exist. I propose the U.S. Constitution be dissolved and 50 nations be formed under the Articles of Confederation. The possessions can be freed to do whatever they will.

I'm courious billwald, what would be the advantage for the individual states, if the USA let go of the federal government, and gave the individual states much more freedom?
