CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sophia you are wonderful I am sure but why do we need these time out posts ? Why can't the individual problems or discussions be done privately. If someone is flaming then why can't there be a system to quietly contact them and edit out the personal flames as needed through the current open reporting process.
I am a bit upset over these type of threads. They add to the general illusion that people need to be scolded publicly. They may need to be investigated publicly but public scolding in a generalized thread like this does not seem appropriate.
Is this part of the new system now ? Frankly I just do not know what the new system is.

This is not about one specific person or one report. The flaming issue is a widespread problem that I believe needs to be addressed in a general way. We need our members to help us. The mods can't do everything, especially since we have limited help here currently. Rather than being seen as a kind of police officer, I would rather encourage everyone to take responsibility for the peace of the forum. What we as staff have been counseled to do is to encourage our members to work out their problems in threads rather than reporting everything. Under the new system, we all need to work together. The old way of doing things is gone.

What is wrong with police officers ?
I am kind of partial to them. LOL
I would think that pm's are the least legalistic and least antagonizing way of doing these things. They are quiet and less grandstanding.
As far as things being gone you are right they are gone but nothing is forever except God.

Serously I appreciatee what your trying to do here and how diffcult the new rules are. That was the whole point of my polling thread that we need act like adults and stop the insanity to bad it's not working.
