  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Well yes, there was this horrible reality at the time too, unfortunately...

It would be nice to be wealthy in most ages, except perhaps the in Revolutionary France.

Yes, I meant being a wealty Victorian. (It's strange, but on the other hand, I'm also attracted by 19th Century rural Québec - I just happen to love history, that's all! hehe :D )

*LOL* I did add that qualification when I chose the time... *G* I'm sure if all that stuff about previous lives would have been true, I would NOT have been a Lady of high birth but some poor washing woman who worked her hands raw, and then died of hunger or typhoid fever or something...

So? We're talking southern dialects here. Has nothing to do with proper English. My favorite is the phrase, "Y'all get on over to momenims. Looks to be comin' up a cloud, directly." :)
Ok, I can understand when you speak Spanish, but Southern? Come on, you're asking a bit much here!!

Religious: I would like to have the experience of Simon and help Jesus carry the Cross.

Secular: I'd bring a tank back to 1757 and help General Marquis de Montcalm defeat the English in the French and Indian War. I can imagine an American future where the Native Americans were fairly treated, and the entire Western Hemisphere would be Catholic. :)

LOL......ever play Civilization and give yourself nuclear capability while everyone else has chariots? It is really funny to see the diplomats come crawling, as they plot ways to subvert you:D

Just make sure you get SDI, before their spys are on to you;)

That's what they'll have you believe!!! :p

well then same guy that first marketed aspirin was the same guy that first marketed heroin:scratch: It wasn't illegal unitl 1913, I believe. You used to be able to buy it through the Sears catalogue, $1.50 would get you two vials of heroin and a hypodermic needle. It was marketed as the wonder drug of the 20th century, so named because it made you feel like a hero, hence the name hero-IN. One formula was meant to be taken by mouth, that was marketed by Bayer pharmaceuticals; it was mixed with aspirin and called Bayer with heroin, of course.

Do you think that Bruce got some of the old stuff?:D

I'd also like to see Montreal (it wasn't Montreal of course way back then!) when there was nothing on the island (Montreal is an island!) but virgin forests and lush green vegetation and when the St-Lawrence River was crystal clear. Let's say I'd like to be there for a few days way back in the 14th century when the native Indians lived by the Saint-Lawrence River. :)

What? Babel fish doesn't have a 'Southern to English' option? :p

I said, "You (could indicate an individual or group) will need to make haste to Mother's house (or other close relative's house where your mother will be present). It appears that a thunderstorm will be upon us momentarily."

:p

I've seen Ebonics translators online, but never a Southern one. Actually, "fixin' to" is common to both Ebonics and Southern.

Think about it this way, PP: When you're "fixing dinner", you're not repairing it, you're preparing it. So when you're "fixing to," you're not repairing to, you're preparing to :).

Edit to add: Zoomom, I've never seen "momenims" written out before. That's great!

What I'd like to do is go back about two months after the great Wall St. crash which caused the Depression and buy stock in the major oil companies and then I'd be extremely well off.

Or, be able to buy InTel when it first went on the market. I think the initial IPO was at $6.
