...And alas so is my attention span ;)

I've noted that most here are unabashed bookworms ( of which I am guilty as well :) ) and there is a veritable mountain of reading material put forth by the folks in this area of the forum.

That being said I do read quite a bit online due to a lack of funds. I'd appreciate your thoughts on the following people/authors:

Ray Comfort
R.C. Sproul
C.H. Spurgeon
Wayne Grudem

Thanks in advance!

(that would be: R. C. Sproul...)

With the exception of Ray Comfort (whom I've never read) I can say that all the others are good. Spurgeon is one of my favorites - and there is a ton of his stuff available on the internet. He has written some of the best and easiest to comprehend sermons on election and predestination that I have ever read.

I would seriously consider reading some of the old, old timers - like Calvin, Luther, Augustine, Edwards, etc. - all of whom you can access their writings on the internet - expescially Calvin and Luther.

Fixt!

Absolutely on the "old timers" lol... I'm just curious as to what you think of the ones I've noted. As in adding them to my reading list. :)

Ray's stuff can be read over at www.livingwaters.com He seems to have his head screwed on straight and I admire his style.

Not familiar withe first.
Only dipped in to the second.
Thoroughly recommend the third.
Wayne Grudem is a very good modern writer. His magnum opus for me is 'Systematic theology,an introduction to biblical doctrine' he addresses modern concerns like the charismata with sensitivety and firmness.
I have two of his other works: 'Biblical foundations for manhood and woman hood' and 'Evangelical feminism & Biblical truth. Both very good!:)

Ray Comfort ...... Excellent preacher on the Law , he sometimes preaches more Law than Grace .......... in order to to prepare sinners for salvation.

R.C. Sproul .......... Brilliant mind and communicator , sometimes difficult to follow as his forte is philosophy.

C.H. Spurgeon ....... easy to follow and full of pith , wit , and joy , the man has the largest collection of sermons in print on this planet ...... preaching at age 16 , a thorough Calvinist , also highly Evangelical :hence the nick name ''Soul winner'' steeped in the Puritans and he had a real love of Calvin's work.

Wayne Grudem ....... Wayne is a Calvinist , yet he threw a spanner in the works about 15 years ago with his defence of ongoing prophecy (the FALLABLE Kind! he said Agabus made a mistake in his prophecy!!!) he was rebutted by another Calvinist Victor Budgen in a UK national Christian newspaper called Evangelical Times , this split the paper , and the readership!!
Personally It also gave me an exit from the Pentecostal Charismatic church and their errant views on prophecy today!

I love spurgeon! His sermons are awesome. I only wish I was able to actually go back in time and hear him for real.......

R.C. Sproul is good for a new Calvinist---at least he was great for this new Calvinist. He was the first real Reformed author I read. I found him easy to follow.

I don't know the other ones....

Loraine Boettner is dandy, easy to read & foundational about important Biblical truths.

BB Warfield also

AA & Chas Hodge, though Van Til calls Chas "an inconsistent Calvinist". Ya just read the inconsistent stuff with a grain of salt ;)
