LOL! My bias is that I got "woke" at a Roman Catholic college with a double major in Math/Philisophy. I have to laugh when I hear that places like Hillsdale College want to teach the classics of Western thought or the history of Philosophy as a bulwark against "The Left."

Right. Understand your bias, but my degrees--both of them--have the secular "STATE" written all over them. So, as I was saying. I do know the difference in shades of Marxism and their uses, and I know the difference in a qualifiable way since I was academically stewed in the early form of 'woke.'

So what ?

I know many white men who have never been around guns or worked on a ranch, yet they demonstrate superior qualities compared to those who are familiar with guns and ranch work.
The point of the OP was that Walz was picked for his enhanced relatability to white men. It kind of obviously didn’t work.

I thought you were a boomer.

No, I'm a younger Gen X'er.

My own personal experiences are hardly typical, though.

Gen X was shaped alot more by the experience of institutional disaffiliation of the Boomers in the 70's and 80's, who were still operating primarily under modernity's assumptions of individualism and materialism.

I'm not sure if your faith has something to do with minimalism, but from my experience and looking at all my kids' friends and family, I see a throwaway generation. Don't get me wrong, I enabled my kids because I could afford it.

I'm not talking about materialism merely in terms of having disposable technology (which has been part of capitalism since the 1920's), but more basic attitudes and values, measuring success in terms of material achievement, the relentless demand for efficiency, meritocracy, the rationalization of all aspects of human life, etc. Those all broadly fit into what we call modernity.

Yes, this will happen, but you'll always need support, and with a declining population, this might not be a bad thing. I think the biggest hurdle is Education and training.

Population decline won't actually happen until the end of this century.

They don't want to teach philosophy, they want to teach patriotic education masquerading as philosophy.

Socrates was a woke scold thousands of years before that was on the lips of J.D. Vance and other Silicon Valley tech bro's.

Maybe I'm thinking of birthrate in Western and Asian countries, not counting immigration. Many Western countries are below the replacement rate of 2.1, and when Boomers and older Gen X die off, it'll affect the workforce.

The best explanation I have read is that human beings do not follow a logarichmic growth curve, like fruit flies, but a logistic growth curve, like elephants. That is the growth curve that tends to be followed by organisms that invest alot in their offspring. Sociologically, as immiseration increases in the developed world due to rising inequality, people reduce their birth rates. The chief cause is the high cost of housing in most developed nations. Another factor mentioned is climate change. Younger generations expect any potential children they have to have a bleak future, and that isn't an unrealistic concern, so more people opt out of parenting altogether.

Let me get this straight, somebody uses a bit of critical theory lingo and you write them off as a pinko?

I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt but it seems like increasingly you are taking on a dark, conspiratorial mindset.

No, you don't have it straight, FD. Try using your academic prowess again. I know you can do it.

I'm an anti-Communist AND a Historical Premillennialist. What do you expect? Don't act like I've never been saying anything like what I've been saying the entire time I've been on CF.

And besides, you can save the inverted patronizing. I know you've never held much respect for my point of view nor cared to find out what content or substance was in my own education.

So, if you want to 'write me off' as just another hack even when my views are still quite different than those on the "Ever Bless Right," then so be it. Just know there's a long line for it already.
