I dont as a tick has to be on you for a prolonged time and believe me I check myself and the dog many times a day when out there

That is good that you do that. In Texas, the LoneStar tick carries Lyme.

But, it's not just ticks. People get Lyme from letting their dogs lick them on the face.

Very bad year for ticks up here as well... I was working on my camper the other day and actually saw one on the outside. It is dead....

I grew up in the outdoors of North Idaho. I've hunted and fished since I could walk and have only had one tick attach itself to me. That was in 2001 or so.

I was driving through Missouri in 2006 when my trailer blew a tire and I had to pull over on the side of the interstate and change a tire. Family and I continued on to a nearby Applebees where I discovered four of the little suckers on my socks. Creepy.

Mild winter here in the Northwest has resulted in a plague of sorts of ticks. My brother went turkey hunting earlier this year and found six of them crawling on him afterwards.

My experience in talking with several old timer outdoorsmen is that none of the old wives tale tricks work. Vaseline, matches, etc...
