CDC warns about red meat allergy caused by some tick bites

Patients who have digestive symptoms only after eating red meat may have developed an allergy caused by ticks. The CDC says hundreds of thousands of people may have been affected over the past decade.

Yes, my husband has alpha-gal syndrome. The first manifestation was when he got a rash and hives after eating a couple of cheeseburgers at a backyard cookout a few years ago. We live near woods and encounter a lot of ticks.

I hadn't heard of alpha-gal manifesting with only GI symptoms, though. That's new, and sounds difficult to diagnose.

I know a handful of people who cant eat red meat now due to this tick disease.

Yeah it was on the news last night. They say the majority of doctors are not confident treating it.
