in vitro fertilization is great because it helps many people have babies who might otherwise not be able to. however, i do wish there was a way they could do it without so many multiple births, and especially without throwing away fertilized eggs (children) they don't want to implant. what's so wrong with attempting to fertilize one egg in the lab and if it doesn't work try again? why do they do so many eggs at one time? it's ridiculous. just because these doctors have an education doesn't mean they have morals and/or wisdom.

& stem cell research is wrong. you don't experiment on innocent little babies who can't speak up for themselves. i don't recall anyone getting their permission first to experiment on them and i don't recall them getting their permission to make their whole purpose in life to be part of a lab experiment.

It is the odds and the cost involved. You don't need to go through the fertility drugs that will allow more than one egg to be harvested it is absolutely your choice but many choose to go through with it cause three eggs have higher odds than one.

As for the unimplanted "children" (if you want to equate them with children) it is often the case with even healthy women that embryos do not implant which means that every landfill is a mass grave site filled with sanitation towel coffins. When are you planning to go to your local landfill to hold a memorial service for them?

Embryonic stem cell research on the other hand promises to do something with all the embryos that will be thrown out. They don't use embryos that are going to be adopted, they do not remove extra eggs just for the fun of it. The embryos are there and we have two choices on where they'll end up: hospital refuse bags or an attempt to cure a myriad of diseases. Use your head and think!

I think that, if a woman cannot have children, she shouldn't have children.

Check out http://www.babyorbust.com. It's a couple who's raising money for IVF because the husband can't [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] sperm. His tubing is closed. It's not the woman's malfunction, yet the need for IVF is the same.

So good of you to assume that it's the woman's fault if the couple needs IVF.

God forbid someone should want to fulfill a dream to raise a child of their own. (I do think adoption is an option to, but some people want a child of their own dna...)

If science offers these people with hope and a way to do it, then let them do it. Its not a waste of time or money for them.

Because it's a waste of time and money for them to worry about it and for science to worry about it. There's too many other important things for science to work on.

It's their time and their money and the people who are working on it have a passion for it and that is why they are in the field they are. You can't just assume a fertility specialist would be interested in some other medical issue you deem 'important'. If they couldn't do what they are doing maybe they would have chosen another career path altogether.

Well is cosmetic science a useful use of money time and expertise?

Not only are you stupid, mnbvcxz, you're also a really horrible person. Ad hominem stuff aside, though, let's take a magical journey and see what else that reasoning will get for us!
People with AIDS should just accept that they have AIDS and die quietly. It's a waste of time and money, and there's other important things for science to work on. Like your stupid plan to stop animal suffering! That's a way better way for scientists to spend their time than helping people have children. And what the hell is wrong with those people who want children anyway! Selfish jerks!

Ok well, if it helps to insult me go ahead. As for your parallell to aids, that's absurd for obvious reasons. AIDS kills many, not having children doesn't kill anyone. Granted a couple or woman who aren't capable of producing a child may want to, but life is unfair. Life is unfair for so many beings and their problem is not important enough for all the effort that's put into it. And there is also adoption, and many children needing a caring foster home/family.

Life may be unfair, but it seems you'd like it to be unfair artificially. This is a big surprise coming from the guy who thinks the resources of earth should go into getting lions and tigers and bears to quit eating things and hug each other. Besides, I think the last thing anyone wants to say is that there aren't enough doctors. Well, second to last, after there aren't enough lawyers. Well, third. I forgot about fundies.
