Some Catholics who are interested in end-time prophecies will mention "the three days of darkness."

I came across an article about the big bulge underneath Yellowstone Lake that has concerned some people. Here's the conclusion of the article,

While Morgan and other researchers try to put their findings in perspective, others have opted for doomsday scenarios.

One Web site urged everyone within 600 miles of Yellowstone to ready for a major eruption while accusing the park of covering up the extent of the danger.

Another claims Yellowstone "will blow its cork" in the next six months, causing "the three days of darkness spoken of in the Bible."

Such talk confounds park officials and scientists.

"We say the park is safe," said Yellowstone spokeswoman Cheryl Matthews. "The changes at Norris and the lake are part of the dynamics of the park."

So where is this "three days of darkness" mentioned in the Holy Bible? And what does it mean? I've never heard any Orthodox Priests mention this three days of darkness, have you?

if I remember correctly, one of the 10 plagues that God brought to pharoh and the egyptian people for enslaving the israelites, was 3 days of darkness. Among others, were a swarm of locusts, swarm of frogs, water turning to blood, hail, etc.

Hi Chanter

I am not sure where they are getting that the 3 days of darkness is a future prophecy in the bible as opposed to what happened in Egypt at the time of Moses, but Catholic tradition does include prophecies about a future 3 days of darkness. But this is a supernatural darkness associated with tremendous cold and demonic activity . . in these prophecies, people are instructed to completely close and lock all doors and windows, cover all windows and to not go outside or even look outside so as to not witness God's judgement, and if one does not obey this, they will die instantly. Everything will cease to work including lights and heat, and nothing will burn except blessed candles.

Recently, locally there was a Church where, instead of the usualy blessing that occured (I don't remember exactly which it was supposed to be), they blessed candles specifically for the 3 days of darkness . .

Any way, I think this is probably what some are referring to . .there have been many who have tried to pin it to a natural or man made disaster (like nuclear winter) but I don't know if one can even do that . . however, this is what I think is happening here . .

Peace in Him!

Dear Andreas and Rising Suns:

Thanks for the Biblical reference. Could the future "three days of darkness" be a reference to the words of Christ when He spoke of the sun and the stars not giving off light at the end of time.

Dear Therese:

Thanks for your post too.

Is this "three days of darkness" (mentioned by those Catholics as a future prophecy) from private revelation?

If so, are there any Orthodox Saints (like St. John Chrysostom) who have alluded to this future "three days of darkness" also? Or is it strictly a Catholic-held prophecy?

Thanks,

Elizabeth
