Can I be green with envy.. and not sin?

In Him,

Bill

I can't tell you how many nights I sat at work, copying and pasting then printing from MSWord: Boyce, Dagg, Augustine, Barth, Finney, Watson, Gill, and Calvin.

Like I said, when I went to seminary, one of my professors inspired me to study theology, and Systematic was my area of speciality. I love it.

And I knew it, no matter what I post, somebody in here always has something to say about it. Not Bill though.

And Bill, did you know that the wikipedia says that John L. Dagg's "Manual of Theology," Volume I, and "Manual of Theology," Vol. II, "A Treatise on Church Order" are the first Systematic Theology written by a Baptist in America?

Dagg overcame extraordinary problems – a limited education, near-blindness, and physical disability – to become a great pastor in Philadelphia and elsewhere and then an educator both in Alabama and as president at Mercer University in Georgia. He was a convinced Calvinist of an evangelical kind who wrote a winsome English prose. Apparently his Manual of Theology (1857) was the first systematic theology by a Baptist in America.

Not bad for a man:

of limited education and intelligence

When I took Systematic Theology in seminary classes, Introduction to Christian Doctrines, By Millard Erickson, and The Moody Handbook of Theology were the books for that class. It was during theis class I was introduced to liberalism, neo-orthodoxy, etc. That is why I have Karl Barth's "Church Dogmatics." (And just for informations sake, I'd like to have for refernce sake only, some of Emil Brunner's works, Reinhold Neibuhr and Richard Neibuhr's writtings. Crawford H. Toy would also fall into this category.)

When I took Southern Baptist Heritage, I was "steered" towards "Boyce, Dagg, Hodge, Dabney, and Gill." This is where I also learned a very hard lesson on Finney. (Gotta be very cautious reading that piece of work)

When I was taking "History of Christianity" I was "steered" towards Augustine, Calvin, Arminius.

The rest I picked up as I continued to study Systematic Theology. My seminary techer told me that he had to study Paul Tillich.

Any how, that is how I came to get my collection.

God Bless

Till all are one.
