I personally don't believe that God would ever put a thought in my head. I'm sure He could if He wanted to but I don't think that's how it works.

Instead it feels to me that God sometimes works with what you've already got in your head by occasionally nudging a thought to the forefront.

In my experience it doesn't mean the thought is a good idea or the ultimate answer, it could even be a really stupid thought, it's just the thought that is the best one I'm capable of having at the time.

What do you believe on the subject?

(Obviously I'm aware that there are people who imagine that God is telling them to commit murder and all sorts of awful things. So you have to be very careful when you think God might be influencing you, and you always have to admit the possibility that He's not involved.)

I can hardly imagine having a thought or a mind without God to create, support, and sustain it. Our minds are a reflection of the will of God, for we are made and loved in the image of God. Whenever our thoughts lead us toward God and the love of God, they have as their source the loving creator who draws us back toward the divine Word each day.

My thoughts are definitely my own and I direct them where I want them to go. However, in those quiet meditative times I think God is able to get a nudge in there now and then. My mind is rarely ever quiet, however.

My grandfather is very connected to God and has had "God nudges" sometimes. The most dramatic one was when he was about 60 years old. He was in perfect health, a real athelete. God gave him the thought that he should go to the doctor. It wasn't my Grandpa's thought because he was healthy and felt fine. He thought the notion was ridiculous. But the notion was implanted in his head so he went. He told the doctor he needed a stress test and the doctor laughed at him, but indulged. He had quadruple bypass surgery the next day! The doctor wanted it done that same day, but my grandpa wanted time to tell his wife and pack.

So I believe that if we are quiet, God is there.

we have 3 voices in our heads....
1. us...selfish & lazy
2. satan...proud rebellious, sinful, angry
3. God ....good , holy, true...

1 John 4.1 test the voice....
a. what is it suggesting
b. who does it involve
c. what is the price we will pay
d. can we do it alone

If the voice suggests lying, stealing, cheating, etc. is not God, is it...
If the voice(mind thought) is reluctant, uncertain, and vascillating is probably us..

Why do you suddenly see a person in your mind, you have not seen in years..... perhaps to lift up in prayer

why didn't your car start this morning... perhaps another problem, an accident on the route you normally take... some thing happened at home that if you were not there, would have been serious.... God's divine appointments and voice...

I'm sorry but this is nonsense. Where in Scripture does it say that we have three voices in our heads? I think you will find that anyone suffering from this kind of condition is likely to be schizophrenic.

The only voice we have in our head is that of our own mind. That mind can remind us of the words of God, or of our friends, or relations, or our own selfish desires, but it is our own mind talking.
