  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My approach in exegesis is to not allow one or two verses that seem to indicate a contrary perspective to drive a contrary perspective.
What about 10-20 verses? How about experiences? You asked: "Show me Where...?" Did you mean "Show in 30 places where....?"

Are you saying that if you have an ingrained belief....you will need more than 2 verses from the bible, that seems contrary to those beliefs, to dissuade you from that belief?

I have to say, these views can keep one from finding the truth.

What do you think the religious people of old, should have done when this new unknown Man, spoke a few words that seemed to contradict their perspectives and knowledge of scripture?

Yes, they were justified in not entertaining it. These types of teachings are not for the wise and prudent. I am ignorant and unlearned....you should not believe anything I have to say.

"I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, ..........; for so it seemed good in thy sight."

The Way is lonely. For death is easier to choose than life.....

What makes me uncomfortable is that you are effectively judging others who don't have your 'revelation'.

Suggesting that others are choosing death rather than life is a heavy number...

The intent of this thread was to celebrate eternal life.

You seem intent on crushing the living daylights out of it !!!

I will leave it for other readers to respond to your musings.

Thank you Carl, it was a great poem and clearly a celebration of eternal life. I can't respond to many of the other comments I've seen because I don't really understand them.

They do not have to be friends to respect one.

But we are called to be friends with believers - sadly this is a rare occurrence. Our modern lives have forced focus on survival and we have neglected community.
I seems the Jews have much more understanding of community having been a people group under pressure and learned that lesson.

My apologies, it is sometimes difficult to hear one is planning for death, when I know Life is available to them. I will try to refrain from sharing the good news so eagerly...... One would think this would be simple, as I am seldom welcomed with open arms......but my unmerited zeal, sometimes get the best of me.

Wonderful poem you have written, and I hope your next 20 years is filled with all that you desire and nothing that you do not....

This was just sent to me, for reasons, I know not why. Even though I know i should keep it to myself....I desire to show that this exchange is not a new one.....for there is nothing new under the sun...:

"51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?"

What happens after you become dust? Will these ashes come together again at the "last Day?"

I figure since God made Adam from dust in the first place, there's no reason why that wouldn't be possible.

Indeed, There is nothing impossible for God...... except, as it would seem from this thread.....the ability to prevent death altogether....

Jesus: "And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?"
Us: "No Lord, unless you are only talking about spiritual death, inwhich case, I can believe you."

I don't know what you're talking about.
Understandable....I was expecting to hear this:

"Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?"

I told another that I would not speak about life anymore in this thread.....so let us get back to talking about and planning for death. If you want to discuss not having to die, we will have to take it somewhere else.
