Thought it was the Measles.....

Last week my daughter had a little rash on her face. My husband thought it was from too much soap. Three days later, I went in to wake her up and she was covered in spots. I TRIED not to panic! I called my Mom (she conveniently works for a doctor) and she said it sounded like Measles. My daughter had just been vaccinated ten days before this. I called her pediatrician and told her what was going on. She told me that my daughter had Roseola.Apparently, to those of us with limited parenting skills, (ie. ME) this is a rash that comes after having a non-serious virus. The doctor assured me that my daughter was not contagious and just looked uncomfortable. She did seem fine. We left our house, later in the evening, and when my daughter hit the sunlight , we could actually see the spots popping out even more! Cue the panicking Mother! By the next morning, there was only one spot left...on her face. Thank God it wasn't the Measles! I just wish this was in the Mommy handbook!

My youngest had something like that once, too. Little red spots all over and a slight fever. I, like you, FREAKED OUT. I thought she had the measles, too. LOL, my husband thought I was crazy, but I insisted we take her to the doctor immediately. We got there and they told me the same thing...a viral rash...quite common, and not at all serious. I was so relieved...it looked pretty serious to me, but it didn't seem to bother her very much.

It's good to know that someone else Freaked out, too! My husband was worse than me, though. It's amazing how bad something can look and still be nothing to worry about. Thank God he protects our children.

It actually is in the "What to expect in the toddler years" in the back under common illnesses. My daughter had this too....exactly 7 days after her two year old visit to the doctor.

Always best to act on the safe side... we mums don't panic for no reason... best to go with your instincts and if ever you feel there is a problem and the GP is not correct then go with your instincts...
