Did anyone have a grocery store in town where you had to write the prices on the items yourself? Each item had just one price sticker on the shelf, and you had to write the price on the item with one of the "grease pencils" that the store provided.

They still use that method in the bakeries at the grocery chains here. Pick a donut, put it in a bag, right down the price. (yes, with the grease pencil! :D ) It's called the "honesty system".

Wow! You guys did take me back....I have never visited the Terrific Thirties forum before...how fun!

I have a memory that may be reflective of the times- or maybe just reflective of my mixed-up family- not sure...you tell me... Every Saturday night my parents would send my sister and I to a neighbor's house so they could be alone. Our neighbor was a sweet, old-lady in her 70's that would teach us how to play poker while she sat and smoked and drank beer (right there in front of us). After we played for like an hour or two she would let us watch The Love Boat (we weren't allowed to watch it at home) while she fell asleep. Then we walked home alone at 9 pm at night and no one seemed to think anything of it.

My brother and I used to dress up like Chips
As well as be the Dukes of Hazzard's Bo & Luke.
LOL, my little brother changed his name to John Baker (Ponch's partner) for an entire summer once. :D:D He made everyone call him John and he refused to answer to his own name.

He did the same thing with Clark Kent (Superman). He would only answer to Clark and wore red underwear on top of his clothes for a pretty good while. He'd also put a bath robe on and run through the house and the yard with the robe flying behind him like a cape. :D

It's pretty funny, actually. I have a picture of him with his superman outfit on, pretending to fly. I wonder if his fiance has seen that one? ;)

One of my favorite memories was the Charlie Brown Specials! A bunch of neighborhood kids would be playing outside and one of the parents would yell out the door "Charlie Brown is coming on!" LOL I remember everyone would run in different directions towards home so as not to miss Charlie Brown. lol although we watched the same ones year after year. :) Also, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph at Christmas time? I used to get so excited! lol

My step mum wouldn't let me leave the table till I'd eaten everything, then it was 'Please can I leave the table', but even before sitting down obviously I had to wash my hands, but it went a bit far every mealtime when she wanted me to show her both sides of my hands. Plus at times I was sat eating a meal for an hour especially if it was liver, kidneys or onions, or steak in a casserole with fat on. I had to swallow it whole so I couldn't taste it especially liver. ERR:sick:
