  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

This isnt normal....

I read it a few minutes ago. The article I read said ever since Vance's comments about people with no children, and the public's negative reaction to the comment, GOP politicians were trying to portray themselves as the party of "family."

Some people don't want to get caught in their hypocrisy. Vance likes to make broad sweeping claims, but it's all aesthetic-based pandering ultimately to cultural conservative eggheads out of touch with reality. And it will probably help cost Trump the election.

There are many, many Republicans that are childless. My aunt, for instance, is a lifelong Republican, and childless. The decline of birthrates in the developed world is something no goverment policy has been able to reverse, and I personally don't think it's going to be that much of a problem. I have faith that humanity will continue, as it has for the past aeons, and the decline in birthrates is a necessary outcome of women achieving greater autonomy and social equality, which are not at all bad things.

One guy no one has ever heard of who's running for a minor office doing this isn't particularly news worthy. However it's something that's being made into an issue because of JD Vance's horrifically terrible awful destructive quip about... well I just can't bring myself to post such an atrocity.

Yeah, cruel stupid comment he should have kept to himself. I know quite a number of women, republicans and democrats who are childless and trying to have children but haven't been successful. I don't think this will cost Trump anything. The people who love him (and Vance by association) will continue to love him "in spite of." They have yet to say or do anything that his base considers egregious. If Trump wasn't considered "poison" after his "grab them by the genitals" comment, then we should have known nothing could tear his base away. And the independents apear to be taking everything in stride. Had Biden chose not to run for a 2nd term and announced it a year ago (instead of letting his ego take over and foolishly digging in, cost precious time), Harris would have had more time to develope a plan and make her case to the public. Right now she is bleeding black voters, especially male blacks who don't trust her ("Uncle Joe" had enormous support with blacks and she does not. ) If she had enormous appeal with blacks, it would offset the lackluster showing she has with non-college educated white males. I don't know that she can win. And there are new articles all over the place that Tim Walz is afraid of debating Vance.

Ye...i kinda see your point (ie..not a big deal).
But not having kids as an elected official is even LESS of a big deal

Except when it comes to making a big deal over a tongue-in-cheek comment someone made.

What makes you think Vance was being flippant? Incredulity cannot be it

There are people that think like that...maybe he is one.

The view of the right is the left seems determined to either abort children or sexually mutate them. That's the root of the comment. The fussing is over what he said, rather than why he said it.

Why do you think it behooves you to change his intent? His childless cat lady comment doesn't even come CLOSE to contextualize what you're arguing.

There's no reason to think that was the reason for the comment.

Also if that was his intent, why did this republican in the op take it to heart to the point he got a fake family?

Did he say JD Vance's comment was the cause for him doing that? Is he the first person in history to fake a family photo?

He's not the first and probably won't be the last; it just seems beyond "weird/strange/creepy that he would do this now. Did he fake a family in other photos from years past? Why fake it now, when running for office. It's too obvious why he's doing it and people are certainly entitled to jump to the conclusion that it is tied in with Vance's statement.

No he didn't at all but even if it was connected why would he admit to it?
The article implies a connection. As do you.

I don't really care.

Is he the first person in history to fake a family photo?
Your asking the wrong question. Is he the first candidate for government office that used his friends family to fake a family portrait.

People running for office don't (or at least shouldn't ) make decisions like these flippantly.

LOL. What?
What was the point in trying to include this?
Why go to Pinterest "ideas" to look for examples?
And which of those pictures is supposed to convey something relevant to this discussion? Were all these people also trying to deceive the viewer?

This wasn't something dude had printed on a throw pillow for his living room (though that would be next level odd).

It seems like you are trying to normalize this behaviour instead of just saying "yeah..it's a bit weird".

It is unusual (in that this particular scenario hasn't happened before that I'm aware of)

But it's certainly not the first time that a politician has tried to "values signal" in an ad.
(sorta like when you see those ads of these career white collar candidates wearing blue jeans and a flannel shirt wearing a yellow hard hat on a construction site looking at plans with a foreman like they're "in on the action" or have anything of value to add)

I see this sort of thing as the predictable next step in the game of shameless pandering.

But doesn't this one seem a bit dumb for that? If he gets elected...is he gonna commit to this family? This get up? Is he gonna file for divorce?

This is too much discussion for me over some random kook running for a minor office.

It won't hurt his standing with his base, but Vance's comments will probably energize some women swing voters and Democrats to vote against the Trump ticket.
