Do you know WHY more people die of asthma than whooping cough?
BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE ARE VACCINATED AGAINST WHOOPING COUGH!!!
Further, surviving whooping cough isn't a picnic either. It often results in brain damage and other life long disabilities.
I'll also point out that so far there is no clear causal link between vaccination and asthma.

More scare tactics not backed up by any facts.

Heres the facts:

The year before the whooping cough vaccine less 300 people died of whooping cough, thats 4700 less then are currently dying of asthma.
Whooping cough had been on the decline for many years and was naturally going away. Its unnecessary to vaccinate against something thats is going away naturally.

The vaccine is not very effective and does not provide lifelong immunity.
- In the UK between 1970 and 1990, over 200,000 cases of whooping cough occurred in fully vaccinated children. (Community Disease Surveillance Centre, UK)
- - In 1979, Sweden abandoned the whooping cough vaccine due to its ineffectiveness. Out of 5,140 cases in 1978, it was found that 84% had been vaccinated three times! (BMJ 283:696-697, 1981)


Don’t believe the scare tactics developing brain damage or other life long problems is so rare. If you’re healthy and get proper treatment you really don’t have much to worry about.

Drug companies will say anything to give you a shot because they profit $$$.

[The effect of DPT and BCG vaccinations on atopic disorders]

METHODS: To examine the relationship between DPT and BCG vaccinations and development of atopic diseases, we studied on 143 children resident of the island of Kodushima, Tokyo Japan. This study dealt with the entire population of 0-3 years old (82), all of the first graders of the elementary school (31) and all of the first graders of the junior high school (30) on the Island. RESULTS: Among the 82 children aged 0-3, out of the 39 who received DPT vaccination, 10 (25.6%) suffered from bronchial asthma and this ratio was significantly higher than among the children who have not received DPT vaccination (1 in 43, 2.3%), (p < 0.01). This was also the case concerning atopic dermatitis (7 in 39, 18.0% vs 1 in 43, 2.3%) (p < 0.05). The same trend was also observed if three diseases (bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis) were combined (22 in 39, 56.4% vs 4 in 43, 9.3%) (p < 0.01). As to the context of BCG vaccination, there were no cases with atopic disorders among the tuberculin positive first graders of the elementary school. No such relations, however, were observed among the first graders of the junior high school at all. FINDINGS: From these results, we conclude that DPT vaccination has some effect in the promotion of atopic disorders, while successful BCG vaccination inhibits the development of atopic disorders, although the preventive effect of BCG may not last for many years.

You can not get non bias research because there are no money made available for such research.. research is usually paid for by drug companies marketing product.

The girls my partner works with were all excited about going off together to see a "thetan healer" together, who supposedly releases suppressed and repressed memories to allow full realisation of self (sounds like a bastardized form of scientology to me, too). Its an utter bargain, they get a group discount. 4 of them going, so she's only charging them $80 for an hour session. Each.

My partner isn't going to let me go to the work Easter party now, having told me this, lest my inner skeptic come out and start [citation needed]ing everytime anyone says anything.

But yeah, lest we derail... if the snake oil merchants aren't in it for the money like those ebil "Big Pharma" types, why don't they give their product away?

I think you have to be careful when you go to the doctor because you never really know if they're give you a drug you actully need.
I think most people trusted vaccines up until this past year. The drug companies got to greedy trying to make money off the h1n1 scare by telling them they need to be vaccinated then it turned out to be a lie. I lost a lot of trust in them. Now i wonder what vaccines are good cause if they lied to use about the h1n1 vaccine they might be lying to us about other vaccines. And as Gbtg pointed out if the whole country of Swenden stopped doing the whooping cough vaccine because its ineffectiveness then i see no reason why i should give it to my kids someday.
For the pro-vaxx people: If you had to choose the top 5 best and more necassary vaccines which ones would you pick? Even the top 6 or 7 is ok if you cant decide.

That just isn't true. Historically, there have been killer flu epidemics every 68 years or so. Epidemiologists are on the look out for the next deadly one to try and stop unnecessary deaths. The vaccine manufacturers took the risk and made sufficient vaccine. If this last strain of virus had been particularly vicious, the manufacturers and epidemiologists would have been heroes. It's unfair for you to vilify them because they didn't see in to the future sufficiently to know that this strain would be relatively mild (except to children).

It's sort of a double bind, isn't it - if the vaccine is successful, the virus doesn't get a foothold in the population and so would seem unnecessary. The more successful it is, the less necessary it seems - until the population of the unvaccinated reaches a tipping point where the virus can flourish and spread.
