The U.S. Air Force is re-activating the old airfields on Tinian, which haven't been used since the end of World War II. Apparently it's to have more strategic aircraft close at hand in case of a war with China.
The old runways and facilities serviced B-29s during the bombing raid on Imperial Japan; the article doesn't say what type of aircraft would be stationed on Tinian, but since fighters are already based on Guam and Okinawa, as well as in South Korea, it's possible that Tinian may end up hosting B-52s.
Unsettling stuff.
