• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey guys,

I do suffer from OCD, and this is an awkward fear. I have 2 email addresses, 1 I use for casual people, another I use for friends and family. I got an advertisement from a local club agency on my person email, which I never give out or advertise. And the email was simply advertising a special night at a local nightclub. I freaked out, It thought someone was trying to hack into my email, someone was going to read my emails and try to find something on me. My compulsions were checking compulsions, I wanted to change me password/block/check for any known alias ect...but I refrained from doing all that because I thought it would be a good exposure therapy not to do those compulsions in reaction to the anxiety I was having. ANYWAY, my question is, for people who suffer with OCD like us, is it common for people to have fears as if someone is out to ....I don't know... "get you" or "hurt you" in some way? I have a tendency to always think its an ex, or an old friend I no longer talk to. This does sound like OCD right? Most of my OCD is religious stuff, so this is kind of a new aspect. But it seems to follow a pattern.

Well sometimes I feel like I'm on the other side of the fence on this one. Like I feel like I'm a creep and ppl think that I'm after them when the world doesn't understand the love I try to show them. It's a horrible feeling to be called a creep when I did nothing wrong. This goes for women cos frankly there makng me mad to the point I tell them what I think. I never use to be this way but women are vicious. They can use words that cut the heart and I know when there applying it to me. They always say Oh I didn't say that to you. LIE! I'm beginning to really have a hard heart towards women and it's sad cos it's almost like God made me this way. Sorry for venting but thats just my point!

Yes, that's definitely OCD.

I don't have trouble with those kinds of OCD fears much because I'm a bit of a computer wiz.

I get spam too, but I'm pretty sure I know where it came from...fast web. Funny how, I sign up, looking for scholarships...which means I'm a student...probably young.

And what do they send me?
80% of C1AL1S ckick here ******.
Honestly, I'm offended that they think I need that stuff. Or that they think I'd dumb enough to click that. I mean, you'd have to be really, really dumb to fall for that one.

If you're ever worried about someone hacking your computer through email. Don't be. Just be careful of the links you click in your emails and use common sense. Your bank will never send you an email, asking you to go to a site and re-input all your information.

And if you're ever worried about the validity of a site, any site, forget all the jarble after the /, just check the domain.

For example:
Amazon.com, is valid, if you see that in the domain, it doesn't matter what follows the / because it's on the legitimate Amazon server.

If it says:
Amnzon.com don't click it, period.

Anyway hope that helps. Remember as long as your firewall is properly configured and you use a safe browser like FireFox with NoScript and Ad-block Plus.

That's my setup and nobody's ever hacked me. :)

It sounds like OCD to me. You did the right thing in not changing you passwords etc... That was great therapy. You for sure understand ocd and that will help you very much in your recovery.

Dabro - sometimes our ocd thoughts cause us to think people meant something worse than they did when they say things to us. I've had that happen to me many times. Do your best to ignore those bad vibes. It's ocd. Try not confronting women concerning the statements they make - at least for a while. If they say they didn't say something - it may be that they didn't mean it how you took it. I may be wrong....but give this a try and see.

@ Dabro -- i feel like im extremely sensative and even when someone jokes im so discouraged . but i think because we have this that it escalates it to a higher level, like it really gets to us . but don't feel bad for displaying your love, the other day i was just saying how i try to hide love and affection and i want to display it more . everyone is different , and the more people know your background, the more they understand you . feel like im all over the place, just wanted to encourage you . keep your head up
