I am not asking you as my father-confessor, but rather, as a more learned Orthodox Christian, whether or not you think the idea is sound or if rather you regard it as problematic.
it’s not for me to say since I don’t know you

that was because the initial discussion was about people before they became catechumens. that’s what we were talking about. we’re not losing people prior to them joining the Church. the example you just gave was about someone already in the Church, which was not what we were initially talking about when I said we’re not losing anyone. because the “anyone” we were talking about were hypothetical potential inquirers prior to their joining the Church.

it wasn’t an example since clergy children departing the faith isn’t an example of potential inquirers who see a video and never join.
Yeah I know that. I was just responding, as I already explained to you, to your statement, and that it does happen too...

my statement was directed at what we were already talking about, not the woman who left. you can’t change the topic mid conversation. of course I agree about Orthodox leaving as a huge tragedy, but that wasn’t what we were talking about.

You can’t change the topic mid conversation? Who says? You? BTW, it is MY thread. It is called "this guy is an idiot". I wasn't CHANGING it I was ADDING to it...just saying BOTH can happen.

I think no one intends to sound harsh or nasty. But in electronic communication, we have to take special care. The others cannot see our face or body language, or hear the tone of our voice. Printed words are naked and neutral, and can have negative effects that we don’t intend. I think if we pay attention to that fact, we can avoid unintended offense.

of course you can change a topic in mid conversation in the sense that you can type whatever you want. the problem is that it doesn’t make for a good conversation. folks usually use some sort of a segue to transition between topics, or some indication they are moving on to something new or are adding something to the conversation.
