I started young. I was 16 when I had my son, who will be 15 in February. I basically feel like we've grown up together. I used to be the center of his world, now I feel he wishes I were dead! Oh I remember being a teen and rebelling like that. Guess I'm "paying for my raising" and my Mom used to say. Well, she still says it but anyway....

Who out there is going through the "teen" phase, and do you think because you are young, your children may not take you so seriously? I feel that way sometimes. It's like all the kids want to hang out at your house because you're the "cool" parent. We've put a stop to that now. We told our son this isn't the "party" house, and noone is allowed inside when we aren't home anymore.

Don't get me wrong, my son is a terrific kid. I just wonder how many of you are going through it as well!

Thanks!

CarolinaMom, Yes! I do know what you are going through! I have a 14 year-old daughter, and she's the answer to the curse "I hope you have a daughter like you someday" that I got from my mother. Actually, I think my mother wanted me to have twenty daughters like me. LOL! She's a pretty good kid, but I do see what you mean by being considered the "cool" mom. I always thought that I wanted to be considered "cool" to my kids, but now I'd settle for the "She means business" mom.

My daughter and I grew up together and for a long time, we were all we had. I think in this respect, we became almost like equals which is not necessarily a good thing. Oh, she takes me seriously but she likes to blow off the clean-your-room or the no-eating-in-the-livingroom rules. I guess she enjoys being grounded or having extra chores. But trust me, my friend, you are not alone in this!

I guess I'm a glutton for punishment (just kidding) because I'm getting married in July to an amazing man who has a 13 year-old daughter. So we'll have 2 teenage girls in the house as well as an 11 year-old and an 8 year-old son! Oh, I love the kids and I wouldn't trade it for ANYTHING, but that doesn't mean that it's not frustrating at times.

I look at it this way, by having them young, once they are out on their own, I'll still be young enough to really enjoy life!!! LOL! God bless you, Sister!

I, too, remember my mother saying "I hope you have a full house of girls just like you" lol.
My husband and I were 17 when our daughter was born, she just turned 15 in Nov. We were 19 when our son was born, now 13. So, yes, I know what you mean. My kids and I are best friends, although, they know their limits as to what is allowed and what isnt (for the most part) It is kinda tough when the friends look at you as "cool" though. Of course we want their friends to like us, but at the same time, be afraid of us. lol. (just kidding) Its just really hard to find a balance.

I'm 30, my SD is 13. It's a challenge, especially with a 1 year old son and a pregnant wife!

WOW!!!! GopJeff, you've got a house full of estrogen these days! Hormones to the left and to the right! God bless you my brother!

I have 2 in their teens, one girl, one boy. My son's Autistic so I am only dealing with him. My daughter............................well...I am dealing with a lot! She didn't live with me in her child years but I am now her only parent left. I love her and want her with us but at times I am battling my old self as a teen. She's me all over again. I know my Dad looks on with pity for me but this is my child and being a teen when I had kids has left me missing out on a lot. I feel she is heading in same direction.

I have a 15 year old daughter (born when I was 19). While I am on the receiving end of a lot of hormones and some serious communication issues between my ex and her (same age as me), generally speaking I don't have a lot of trouble with my teenager. She does her homework, she doesn't snap at me (although when we are both hormonal there is a lot of crying) and is generally a good kid. I mainly have problems with getting her to keep her room livable.
