  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If everything is one-

Ok?
Agreed. Plus: There can´t be anything that isn´t god, and everything is infinite (whatever that might mean). Everything and god are synonyms by this terminology.
For simplicity´s sake, I´d prefer to keep using the term "everything", in this case.

Ok?
Is that which you perceive infinite?

As I contemplate this I see myself faced with a choice: I can understand everything I perceive to be God, or I can see that all things are contained within God. I know that all things that I perceive and understand have limits and boundaries, and so it is more likely that whatever it is that directly contains me has a boundary. And if all things have boundaries how is it that anything can exist without eventually reaching some boundary of non-existance? Unless of course if God is the infinite that contains the finite, then it would make sense. Now if God contains all things then to what degree is that which I perceive actually God himself?

Sojourner if you imagine that a cloud divides itself into rain. So god divided itself, manifested itself into the universe. Existence, god, life = the same thing.
I agree in that I see existence, and life having God as their ultimate source. However, in this thing we call reality there is creation and destruction, good and bad. Are all of these things meant to be? Are they all from God and of him? If they are what does that say about God? How can we know for sure?

The bigger question when discussing pnathesitc thought, is if god is the universe, and we are of the universe, and thus we are god, and the reverse is true, then what is the point in even defining a god to begin with? What is differenent in the above and the below.

We are of the universe, thus we are the universe and the universe is us.

Why add a god?

Well these are huge questions and I've tried to answer them through my philosophy. Gimme a couple days I'll have a thread for the philosophy section outlining it all.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. God is the description for whatever entity became life. Now it is defined by the universe, but if you take that this entity existed pre the universe, god is a description of whatever that was.

But now the universe is the total existence of god.

If you were to imagine humans pre word communication. How would you then define the universe and everything in it, and thoughts about these things, without words?

This is an incredible philosophical question and hard to imagine for us as we have always thought in language and words are accepted as fact in their definitions of things and concepts, but the truth is that none of our words or concepts have any lasting meaning. They are useful now, for us, but that is it.

I'll add my own theory to Darwin's Theory of Evolution. Many centuries later, the human brain could evolve into an organ that combines genetics with nanocomputers - some kind of macromemory microchip - then communication or our understanding with words would be instantaneous. Reading a 200 page book, preferabably an e-book, it would probably take only half an hour. Comprehension skill is so important because when it comes to engineering design for construction technology for example, mistakes can cause a huge disaster if an engineer misread information and installed the wrong components during a repair job.
"Beam me up Scotty" - Captain Kirk in Star Trek uses the transporter, a transporter I believe would be the next technological marvel.
