  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Are you planning on going into the USAF after college and going in as an officer or going in after high school and joining the enlisted ranks? We have both aspects of this covered by active duty USAF members posting in this thread, so we can answer anything you need. And we can give you realistic interpretations of what recruiters tell you (some can stretch the possibility of things). Also, if you'd like to talk, PM me your phone number and I'd gladly discuss anything you like.

I'd give ya my phone number, but I'm stationed in England right now :p

On a side note, it's pretty difficult to get into the Air Force right now, and probably the Navy as well. My AFSC for example has completely halted training for my career field.

While it may be better to ask someone involved with Army recruiting who would know more than either of us, the fact that the Army is involved with the Blue-to-Green program and activated Stop-Loss procedures tells me something.

Besides, current manning levels and recruiting aren't the same thing.

Yep, it depends on the amount of people getting out versus the projected amount the Army thought would get out. This number with the total manning numbers is what drives the recruiting goals. I believe the recruiting goals for the USA are going to go up over the next couple of years as the USA has many people jumping ship because of long deployments. It is sad, but...hopefully I am incorrect. The USN numbers may go up as well, but I think the USAF numbers will go down.

Actually, the Army has been meeting their recruiting goals, but (at least in my opinion) the main reason why is because they're offering obscene amounts of money to new combat arms recruits as enlistment bonuses.

Of course, the stop loss is not hurting the numbers either. I'm one of the lucky ones - I ETS'd last month and missed my unit's stop loss by mere days. I'm now working as a Gov't contractor.

My advice is that if you're going to do the military, GO AIR FORCE, if you can. Much better quality of life and much better jobs. I have a link on my website I call "75 Things I Hate About the Army", and on the list, I put "It's not the Air Force" about 4 times. That should tell you all you need to know...

Yessir. I'm in the 48th EMS (Equipment Maintenance Squadron) though I was originally assigned to the 48th AMXS/493rd AMU.
