• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Issue is there's no place around here to do it except a facility that I went to for other reasons when I was 16. And, it's utterly terrible. Also. I have no insurance or money to cover it. Anyone know what I should do. Because, it's now becoming unbearable. Even worse than I can and have described it in my other thread.

5 months of the same stuff day after day. Praying to God that it would stop already. I just want my life back. I cannot stand this. Help please.

Have you tried explaining your problem to your family and talking to them? I've talked about it with my dad and so if things are really bad I usually have him I can talk to. It helps having a family around, or at least some friends that you can talk to or distract yourself with. I think that's maybe the thing about being committed is that people feel like they're safe in the hands of someone else, so if you have a support network of people close to you who you can talk to and trust to comfort and encourage you through everything it's the next best thing I bet.

You can seek help in a medical facility without committing yourself. A state commitment is very cumbersome and someone will be telling you where to live, how to live, what to do, when, and how, as long as you are committed. However, your medical would be covered. You just run the risk of ending up in a state run hospital and depending on your state's mental health budget, that could be like prison with a shrink.

A few months back, my doctor and i had a serious discussion about doing just this. Not having insurance would mean I went into a poor hospital where they treat a lot of true "crazy" who also don't have insurance. In the end we decided that it might actually make me worse.

I had a friend who went and he said to do whatever I can to stay out. I'll pray for you. Hopefully you'll do exactly what you need to do though!

Well. I was at church tonight and the sermon was how God always loves me no matter what you're going through. I also talked to the pastor's aunt who has the exact same OCDs. She helped me alot. So did the sermon. She said she's been dealing with it since she was 30. She's alot older now and I just cannot imagine being in this situation for that long. I feel a bit better though. But, I think I'm finally seeing the fact that God wants me to get help. I'm going to go to the therapist soon. I also was told that one around here works with people with low to no income *my situation* and the medication is free and therapy sessions are only $12. Which, I can probably manage.

Awesome, now it's up to you. It's like that a lot with our creator. You are shown the door and then it's up to you to knock and step through. I pray you get set on a path to recovery for your OCD. I have mental illness of another kind and it can feel terribly lonely, isolating, and downright scary at times at least for me. God bless you
