I have a friend from college who's best buddy was studying at Concordia in Austin and apparently women loved the idea that he was studying to be a pastor. Must be the opposite of those women who find bad boys irresistable. ^_^

I suppose it could be said that it demonstrated intelligence on the ladie's parts, and trustworthyness is what they saw in the fella.

I knew quite a few women who hung out at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in order to find mates. Worked for at least one of them.

At my age, luvie, even Olive Oyl looks good (LOL)! :D ;) Besides, who am I to talk?

There's that age thing again... I'm used to it. Extinct is something my children are always alluding to in regards to me. After all, they used to think that the neighbor's names when I was growing up were Flintstone and Rubble. My eldest child, in all honesty, asked me once if 'Little House On The Prairie' was accurate.
"Did they really live that way?" she asked me.
"I suppose so," I answered. "It seems more historically accurate than most programmes."
"But don't you know?" she persisted.
"Just because I train horses to pull carriages, doesn't mean that I was born around the Civil War, luvie," I told her. "Even Grampa Keith isn't that old." Her opinion of me hasn't changed overmuch through the years.
:sigh: I'm just fifty and my children think Methusela was my first cousin and that dinosaurs roamed the earth when I was a child.

LOL! I am always telling my neice that her grandpa rode the dinosaurs to school, uphill, in 6 feet of snow, etc.

At my church, for years, the one true Single's group was geared for people 40 and older. I think it's still there.

There were a couple of young adult groups that were unofficial single's groups for people in their 20s and 30s. I was part of that and it wasn't a lot of fun because if you were spotted having a conversation with a single member of the opposite gender, rumors would spread that you were dating. Luckily I joined after most of the members had married each other so I didn't get as caught up in is as I could have. Also, eventually, one of the other members introduced me to my husband, who was a co-worker, not a member of the group.

I have a feeling the older Single's group were much more mature about it.

The young adult group that is in place now isn't nearly as bad, and I participate in activities once in awhile.

Maybe we need a dedicated flirting thread for Lutherans only in TCL? :D You never know. ;)

I don't think a Flirting thread is needed here. I think that if you are attracted to someone that it should be kept under wraps until there is a bona fide relationship happening. I am sorry that my previous content of this caused some embarrasment.

There will be no room getting until God has blessed my right to torture, I mean, carry on with a man 'til death we tear one another apart.

Maybe if there was a dedicated flirting thread, we'd attract more single Lutherans here. They are out there and there are other flirting threads in other areas, but I am a bit less inclined to carry on with a non-Lutheran, being so shy and all.

Trust me, don't go after the non-Lutheran guys. It's not fun going to church alone :(

I guess I just assumed otherwise. Sorry you have to attend alone. I'm used to that, of course, but then there is no one at home refusing to go with me, either.

Maybe DaRev has more potential than I realized. ;)

My husband has been to my church a few times and found out we're not too different from the services at his church. When we were first married, I attended his church for a long time before I found my church :) I had hoped he would have come to mine as many times as I went to his though. :(

Da Rev definitely would be one who would not turn down going to church...but then again, would you be able to sit next to him???

Nope. Now I know you are older and would not have to deal with young children. When our kids were younger and we would attend worship on vacation, the kids did not know how to act as Dad was sitting with them!

I knew quite a few women who hung out at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in order to find mates. Worked for at least one of them.

Nowadays, there are women attending the seminaries. They are mostly involved in the Deaconess program and some are MA's. And it isn't at all uncommon to find matches made bewteen the men in the MDiv and the Deaconesses. A classmate of mine met and married a deaconess student there. And I knew of at least two other such couples.

The stories of old told about the nursing students at the old Lutheran hospital (now Forest Pasrk hospital). The girls would always woo the sem students.

My BIL was an OB-GYN and I don't envy that life. He was never home.

Still, Flipper, if he is as devout as you are, feel blessed. It is more common to be unequally yoked, is it not?

It's nice sometimes because I can go out with my girlfriends without feeling guilty if I do it on a night he's working.

He's originally UMC. He went through the classes and became Lutheran and a member of my church before he married me, which was very sweet.

However, we get into these deep conversations, and I find that he doesn't agree with a lot of what the LCMS preaches, and I think he became a member because at the time he thought it would be the right thing to do. When it comes down to it, his beliefs are more UMC than Lutheran, which has lead to some disagreements as to baptism, communion, and where to go to church when we build our dream home out in the country. When it comes down which church, he will do what I wish, because that's the kind of guy he is, but I hate that he is just doing things to make me happy when I know he doesn't feel the same way. So, I keep praying and witnessing to him because I can't think of anything else to do.

When he's off work, he'll go to church if I push it, without complaining. However, if he has his way, there are other fun things to do. It gets hard for me because the other fun things to do that he has in mind seem to be more fun than church sometimes. Also sometimes, it's the only time we have together during the day before he has to work 10 days straight, which makes the fun stuff more tempting than church.

I may grumble about it sometimes, but when it comes down to it, I feel immensely blessed that I'm married to Christian, even if our denominational views differ.

I agree. I go alone, mine won't go. He grew up in a Baptist church. Go after a Lutheran man if you can.
