No, the way things work, we won't get rain till October or November. It's just one of those California things. That's why we're such a popular vacation area.;)

I've been going down to the Fire Station at the bottom of the hill for water. They've got a much more generous well. Also, they can draw from Grass Valley Creek. We can too, except that side of our property has a 150' vertical drop, or cliff. No way to get more than hand tools down there. Anyway, I've been able to keep things alive with the portable tank.:) In fact, I'm going down there with it in a few minutes. Thank Heavens the Fire Chief is as kind as he is.:) Thanks to him, I think the potatoes are going to make it.

Get a hydraulic ram. There are different styles and application to this that are inexpensive to purchase. Read the specs because the lifting height is only so high.

Hi Rad. The hydraulic Ram won't work in this case. It has to lift the water at least two hundred feet out of the well, then another fifty to seventy-five to the storage tank. I even thought about two of them. But no, it wouldn't work. Now, from the spring house to the storage tank is less than fifty vertical feet and a H.R. might work very well. George and I have discussed it as a replacement when the time comes.

You weren't kidding - they have 4 horns!

LOL, yeah, creepy... like a bug (LOL)!:p

Stude! Love the grassmowers :)

My sinus headache went away, thankfully! And we never did get the rains we were supposed to get, just a LOT of clouds passing us by.

Thank God for Cloud cover! It clouded up here around four o'clock and the temps dropped ten degrees! Thank heaven they hung around till dusk, It'll get cooler sooner so I can sleep more tonight.;)

We are supposed to get rain today and tomorrow. Sun is shining right now - go figure.

Like I said when we were chatting, bottle up some rain clouds and ship'em FedEx next day please.:p We need 'em.:hot:

Well, I've found another source of water. I'm now stopping at the rest stop outside of Weaverville. The caretaker remarked he'd not seen a tank the size of the one in my trailer (250 gals). I'll just have to fill it at night, I suppose.;) Also filled two fifty gallon drums and a twenty-fiver on the way home from work. The big one is gone and the three small ones will be used fairly quickly tomorrow morning.
It was five degrees cooler today than yesterday. Only a hundred degrees. I feel so... much... better.:hot: LOL.:p

Here in NE Kansas we've had an amazingly cool and moist July. Quite unusual. July is usually our hottest month with temps in the high 90s or over 100.

Only three days above 90 (and they were low 90s) and 8 days in the 70's. We've also had light showers every few days. I keep container plants on my patio and I usually have to water them every day in the summer. I've only had to water them 4 or 5 times this month.

I love it. It feels like I moved to New England.

I know Till is in the London area, what area are you in again, Porter?

Right now, we're south of London, on the coast, off the Isle of Wight, but we're moving back to our house northeast of London, at the end of August. We have lots of renovating to get wrapped up before then and my parents will be here in October for their 50th anniversary. :help:

Ah, so this is the country house?

I woke up at 4am - still awake. Guess I'm up for the day.

My husband has nights like that. It's frustrating for him, too.

It has to do with my sleep apnea, I think.

I too, can sympathise. Though in my case it has to do with the heat. Till it drops below seventy degrees, I can't sleep worth a durn. Just catnap and then I get headaches and feel groggy all day.:hot::waaah: Oh, for those cold winter nights when I sleep so well.:sweetdream: Guess I'm just an old bear at heart (LOL)!:p

Stude, you need to come visit Cincy. Especially this year since, it's only 75 degrees right now. In August. Our July was one of the coolest on record with average temps of 72- 74 degrees. Looking at the forecast, the low is going to be 68 tonight. Out here in "God's Country" (or as other folk call it, East Egypt) it'll prolly be a bit lower.

And the *cough cough* real *cough cough* Lutheran synods DON'T advocate for Women's ordination! (I swares!)

I just got back from the SE District's Leadership conference, and this quote made me think of this morning's communion. There were three stations (it was a really large group). All three had pastors (male) giving out the host, but one had a woman offering the cup, and the other had a cup with juice instead of wine ("for those who are sensitive to wine", as it was explained). So I pretty much only had one choice among the three offered.
