Everyone have plans this coming memorial day weekend?
Boy, do I! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it- my hubby and I are going to St Thomas Fri thru Tues. This is a trip I won thru work, and we are using it as a very belated (8 yrs belated) honeymoon! Neither of us have ever been on a trip like this so this is really special!

My daughter Laura's birthday was yesterday. I forgot, like I usually do. :o That's why I sent her a birthday greeting on the first.;) So I was early and late. Someday I'll get ontime down pat.

My car is 52 years old tomorrow. Her build date (the day she rolled off the doll up line) is May 20, 1956. Fifty-two years old and still giving daily service!

Filo,
Happy and Blessed birthday to you on Sunday.

Enjoy the trips. Sounds like a great one and winning it makes it even better.

Memorial Day plans? Don't have them yet. Need to talk to youngest and find out which 4 days are their 4 day weekend. Either way, am thinking of driving down there on Sunday after church (you know, the whole Pastor's work on Sunday thing applies to me when I want hubby to go) and maybe stop by Kansas City on the way back to see my lil brother. My youngest has been at his Duty Station two weeks now, might be fun to go see it since he decided not to come home.

If we don't do the trip, we will probably just stay home and hang out.

I'm heading up to Baltimore for the holiday weekend, to Balticon 42. I'm not as active in SF fandom as I used to be, but it's my one con (convention) a year. And this year, my husband Hunter is actually going with me! Usually I share a room with one of our gamers, a dear old friend of ours. This time, Scott has to share with both of us. *laughs* Poor guy... we both snore. He packs ear plugs for the weekend.

I'm so excited to share the weekend with Hunter. And the guest of honor is Connie Willis, who writes amazing time-travel stories. I've been reading up in preparation for the con (which is why I'm still in the first part of Bondage of the Will).

Also, it's the one time of year I get to see a lot of my old friends from fandom. A lot of us have just grown older and have other responsibilities and priorities, and can't do the fannish stuff as much as we used to. We used to go out to dinner at least once a month with a group of fen (plural for sf fans), and we'd go to three or four conventions a year. But with a mortgage and a child, and getting to the age where I can't sleep in a blanket on the floor anymore... well, we don't go to as many cons as we used to. *laughs*

Plus the singing is amazing! I plan to stay up late on Friday singing in the bardic circle, where you sing all sorts of medieval, modern, and filk songs. And of course, Saturday afternoon I'll meet in the bar with my girlfriends (who have since moved to Florida, Oregon, and Georgia, but who "come home" for Balticon) and drink Chocolate Martinis and catch up on the news.

It's the latest desecration to all that is a true Martini. It actually falls under the sub-category of Martoonies. Other Martoonies include the Appletini and the Pickletini, which is an abomination of Vodka, pickle juice and a lemon peel garnish.

The only true Martini is made with Beefeater Gin and a whisper of Dry Vermouth. Anything else is sacrilege.

While you guys are drinking martinis this weekend, my hubby and I are going on a little trip. Fishing, golfing (I don't golf), walking in the woods, chatting and drinking coffee.....relaxing stuff. I can't wait. :) We are leaving thursday, plan to come home monday. I don't want to think about that "coming home part" just yet. ^_^
