  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Think I'll sit down here for a bit... (6)

Anybody have an idea on how to heal a burn? I burned my hand in the oven while taking out a pizza the other night, now my hand is pretty red and gross looking.

I've used some anti-biotic ointment and a large bandage for now. I do think it's infected.
Aloe Vera. Lots of it. :)

My oldest son played soccer since he was 5 or 6 yrs old played all the way through school and even joined a mens league and played until last summer when he got kicked in the shin real good, either it broke his leg or popped it out of joint or something like that and tore a ligament bad enough he had to have surgery and they put a dead person's ligament in it.

It's not infected. Just inflamed.

My answer may also inflame a few members, but this truly does bring relief and healing.

I learned about this from an old blacksmith that I worked with when I was in high school.

Urinate on it.

I learned later that there is science behind this. The composition of urine is sterile, and gives it antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Uric acid, phosphates, other salts, and even some hormones.

:preach:I'm not telling you to try it, but I know first hand (no pun intended) that it does work. Almost instant relief.

Heh, urine is sterile, that's a fact. And I've heard the same thing.

Not sure I'd recommend it...but I have heard it.

Seajoy, now that the burn has stopped burning, you can use a little ice to bring down any swelling. Take an aspirin (or tylenol if you're cursed like me and can't take any NSADS) and keep the hand elevated. (that helps with the pain) If there are any blisters, DO NOT pop them. Let them be because the liquid inside helps with the burn. If they pop on their own, put nesporin on them and call your doctor.

When I worked in the ER, we'd use a bit of Dreft laundry soap to soak burns in to help them stop burning. It's a very very gentle soap. Dreft, cool water and then a bit of ice in the water once the burn had stopped. (burns keep burning even when you pull away from the heat.)

I sure hope it feels better soon!

Thanks Kae!

I think Rad's idea of aloe is working. Not so much redness today. I think I'll leave Mark's idea alone for this round. :)

Funny thing, I worked in an ER for 7yrs and couldn't for the life of me, remember the tricks for healing a burn. (no, I wasn't a nurse....I was a receptionist/gopher :pink: )

Anyway, thanks everyone for the ideas.....even the whacky sounding ones! :tutu:

Kae, hope you are feeling better, too!

"and keep the hand elevated."

She's a Lutheran. She is forbidden to elevate her hands in any way. :p ^_^ ;)

But what about that whole "if your hand causes you to sin" thing? I'd rather have a burnt hand than a stump. LOL
I must agree with you there! :D Especially since it's my left hand.....and being left handed...whoa, what a bummer that would be.
