I've never been a huge fan of parades. The Pasadena Rose Parade was always enjoyable, but that one's unusual. The BBQs are fun. The picnics are fun. The fireworks are fun, except when they set your house or town on fire. Here in Trinity County, we usually have our July 4th fireworks around Christmas. That way we don't set the whole county on fire. I'll usually go to a friend's house to watch them.

Nowadays, it's just too much trouble to go anywhere. There's no one there I know or want to bother with, or it's a Yuppie fest around here, sadly that even includes Church functions, so I stay home. I got a lot of weeding done yesterday.

Yeah, Luther, I kinda feel the same way. I always was uncomfortable when people showed up in uniform, or they sang the anthems of the various military branches (Memorial and Veterans days) or patriotic songs (4th). However, I'm even more uncomfortable when our cities, counties, State and Federal governments celebrate foreign holidays, like Cinco De Mayo. Should we celebrate Boxing Day as well? No, I don't believe these government holidays have any place, or at least very marginally, in the Church. Years ago, I was amazed to find God Save the Queen/King in the Lutheran Hymnal. Talk about inappropriate.

Made it safely. My room is very nice, and walking distance from the hospital. My car is still in one piece, except for the AC...will have to get it checked out sometime.

Mel - your post reminds me of my days of working in the ER. Night shift receptionist. I loved that job. The morning shift for the floor was always asking me how many were admitted during the night. Like it was my fault or something.

Anyway - I need a new doctor. I finally got an appointment with a family practitioner for August 26th. My old doctor was a quack. He never said anything. I was just supposed to guess what was wrong with me, as far as I could figure out.

My foot is killing me for the past few days - today, being the worst. I don't remember hurting it at all. I have no idea what's going on.....I just sit with my foot up, because walking on it is a bugger.

No 4th of July celebrations here We get far too many fireworks anyway as it's become a normal practice for people to have them at parties, so I don't miss that bit of it.

Our angel did have her leavers (senior) prom this week. They've only recently started having them here, but the kids did a good job arranging it themselves and we were impressed with the venue and how well-behaved and beautifully dressed they all were. We certainly never had four course meals at my proms, but they managed it. How they didn't end up sick with all the dancing the did afterword is a mystery, though.

JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED!!!!

Forgive me if I seem a bit excited.

Better back up a bit here. Last November, 17 yo (now18) young man from out of state held up not one but two convenience stores for money and cigarettes. These two murders happened in two counties.

This young man has shown absolutely no remorse. The trial for one was held last week and in less than an hour, he was found guilty of first degree murder and first degree robbery. This morning, he was sentenced for that murder. Since that guilty verdict, he filed for a new plea hearing where he changed his plea from not guilty on both charges in the second one to guilty.

This young man knew what he was doing, yet he is also a very sick person. While one of the judges called him a "cold blooded murderer" today, he sat there and smiled almost to the point of laughing.

We are so thankful that this young man will be going away for a very long time (life with no chance of parole). On the other hand, I pray for this young man that he may come to learn what he did is wrong. That he gets the help that he needs.

I just had to share. While those in the country were watching the Anthony case from Florida, those from my little corner of the world were watching this local case.

...And likely something that wasn't really major. This is why I drive a Studebaker. I can fix it myself. Now... finding the money for parts, is a different story.

As to the young murderer: Do you realize it will require fifty grand a year to support this waste of skin?:o No small wonder he was so happy. At seventeen years old, that means we will likely pony up three and a half million to five million to support him before he finally graces this planet with his death! No murderer is worth three million dollars. I'll take the Biblical viewpoint and see him sent on his way, dispatched with prejudice. Yes, I support the death penalty.

Decisions like that leave me wondering who wins in capital cases.

Do you know anyone who knows how to fix cars? My dad helps me fix mine and I can guarentee that problem would probably cost you less then $200 by fixing it yourself.

If you decide to go with a different car, don't waste your money on a brand new car, get a used one. The premium paid for a brand new car is just not worth it.

BTW The AC doesn't work in my car either. But I don't think I'll keep my car for more then 2 more years either.

Now, if you just want a different car and this is a good excuse to change, then that's a different story.

Well there eventually reaches a point where you are spending too much time, energy, and money repairing a car. For my last car when I spent $100+ on repairs for 3 weeks in a row (repairs that we did ourselves, not something done by a mechanic) I decided it was time to get a different car.

But for the most part I agree. Although my car right now has me on a shorter temper. It has a design flaw on it that is common with the model. Randomly the windshield wipers will just decide to come up for no apparent reason. Sometimes it will keep doing it. If its a dry day it makes you look retarted driving down the road with your windshield whipers going.

Often times I can clear up the problem temporarily by using the windshield cleaning thing. But this always has been a problem and its only gotten worse.

Melethiel - My husband is pretty handy with cars (so is my dad). Usually he does car repairs himself. Since you are now in the area he might be able to fix it (obviously you'd need to get the parts). What kind of car is it?

My hubby said the R134a (Freon which is the a/c fluid) would need to be drained and repair shops usually charge $100, but my dad can do that. He's got a license for HVAC
