Persuaded my mom to go to church with us this morning. She isn't Lutheran (raised Brethren and now attends a C&MA) and doesn't fully understand what we do and why we do it. She thinks it's "ritualistic".

that's interesting (and sad), aibrean.....i'm taking my stepmom to church this morning (leaving in about 15 minutes), she's baptist.....i'm concerned that she'll be saying the same thing.....(although, apparently, this particular church SAYS they do "traditional liturgy", but it's not out of the LSB, it's out of the bulletin.....sigh)

sorry she wasn't receptive..... :(

i didn't catch it yesterday at the Christmas Day service - but apparently they do "snippets" from the Divine Service, and the rest is from "Creative Worship"....sigh.....Lord's Supper this morning consisted of single file line, nobody kneeling, nobody bowing, and when they did the passing of the peace, it was like a free-for-all.....very, uh, interesting.....

even more interesting was afterward, my stepmom asked if i wanted to go to her church for service....so i went, cos i knew she wanted to go, so i ended up going to a baptist service 15 minutes after the lutheran service....

just.....interesting.....lol

saying major prayers today for someone very special to me who will be traveling tomorrow :crossrc:

hope everyone had a blessed day in the Lord's House this morning!!

Well we got snowed in, most churches cancelled services this morning, I'm not sure if ours did but there was no way I was getting out of my snow covered driveway and going down the snow covered curvey hilly roads, church is about 27 miles one way. My husband calls the Lutheran church Catholic lite like in Bud lite

Like I always said, Creative Worship is neither "creative" nor "worship". ^_^

Can't wait to hear about that! ^_^

He appreciates the prayers. ;)

Hod only a small handful in service today. I guess some were burned out by the holiday and others afraid of the snow. Major nor'easter coming through today. They tell us 12 to 18 inches. We'll see.

Yea...she was okay with pretty much everything except the confession/absolution. We had to explain the office of the keys and the passage in John fully to her. She has issues with it on Easter. In fact, she was writing down what was in the LSB during the sermon to talk to us later (even though I have a personal LSB edition). I think we've gotten her straightened out. My brother explained it as the pastor being the mouthpiece.

We also explained that really nothing we do is "ritualistic" because it's based on the liturgy and even their church has an order of service. Our repetition is not just saying the same words every Sunday...they have meaning to us. Once my mom realized that anyone can say any words, whether it's a contemporary song or a verse from the liturgy. You have to mean what you are saying.

What is the LSB, may I ask?

Is it OK for deacons to preach? 'Cuz that's what happened in my church on Christmas morning.

My husband (the Pastor) has had deacons fill in when we have been away. They usually send him their sermon to go over before they fill in. When we are away on communion Sunday, he finds a Pastor to fill in.

Oh, Angie, I'm so sad to learn about your situation. It's at times like these, we must trust that God has His reasons and know that He's taking care of everything. As with everything else in this world, it's only temporary.

Well, we made it to Texas by the skin of our teeth, with the help of wonderful Frankfurt airport operations and by the grace of God. It is surprising cold here, but at least the sun is shining brightly and the roads are clear. :)

Hopefully my sister's flight into Newark from Brussels won't be cancelled tomorrow and she can get back home. If it is, our full family Christmas may have to wait even longer. My poor mother!!!

Was the pastor not there?

The senior pastor was there, but not the assistant pastor who is usually there.
