I like veggies Ok but probably not the kind in your diet, plus they have to be soaked pretty good in butter :yum: My slogan is if I have to eat it has to taste good otherwise why bother :p
Yep yep yep--BUTTER!
Nope nope nope----vegies:o:idea:

What was that saying during the 80's? "Gag me with a maggot". That's my feeling on vegies------except spinach and asparagus. My wife means well but she makes this "crunchy" salad and I don't like it. Reminds me of munching on gravel.

Glad you are reading the Bible but it shouldn't be read as a marathon to see how much you can read in a certain amount of time. Luther says "read, mark and inwardly digest". Read some good commentaries for each of the Books. Preferably Lutheran. If you want a free one find Kretzman;s Commentary on line.

Wise words. I tend to read small blocks of the bible at a time....sometimes reading over a section many times at one sitting. There is so much to take in.

You took me using the term 'marathon' literally. I was just saying that last night I wanted to spend a good amount of time with God, because I had missed a few days. I never said it was a contest with myself to see how much I could read in a time period. I kind of meant it in a funny way saying 'marathon.'

I have a Lutheran study bible. But what I want to do is read the bible first with audio, which I enjoy doing. Then at a certain point, stop, and read those same parts in the study bible. Or I might just read the whole bible the way I am doing it, and then read the study bible after.

I'm going to try not to watch the 9/11 specials and documentaries today. I feel really bad for those who died and their families, and I will pray for them today. But when I watch tragic things on TV I often get depressed and feel weird about life. I don't want to get in that mind state. Plus I am well aware of what happened that day, I can remember it vividly.

All this talk of spuds makes me want to put on a big pot of Irish stew, which my hubby would love. As for Paula Deen, most of her recipes are hits in this house.

Maybe now I can also get back to reading the Bible. Seems my reliance on reading glasses is no longer good enough and I have had to order some verifocal (?) lens glasses and will even have to wear prescription sunglasses to drive! I never had to wear glasses until I needed them to read, so this is quite new and frustrating for me, but if it means I can see without straining, it's worth it.

Getting old stinks sometimes. :D

It's bad when I decided I was going to mix my own garam masala, and the only thing I needed to get was brown mustard seeds.

I'm getting in the mood for some big pot cooking! Homemade chicken chipotle soup tonight, and chicken makhani (Indian butter chicken - the "butter" is actually yogurt) tomorrow night.

My wife just whipped up a pot of soup and I thought "oh brother, its another one of those veggie soups". Boy was I wrong. I've had 2 bowls and working on my 3rd. She added everything except the kitchen sink plus a couple of red peppers to spice it up. Cooler weather always brings on the soups.

On the glasses thing. I got a script last year finally for some glasses and never got it filled. Now I'm paying for it. Things in the distant are getting fuzzy and reading up close is MORE blurred. Guess I'll have to go get another script. We're not getting older porteross, we're getting riper. Somebody came up with the mantra of "oh this is your golden years". I just said it was more like my "rusty" years.

I did my second 5K today. Improved my time by about 2 1/2 minutes from the last one.

We had both the t.v on as well as the internet when we went back to our room to freshen up. Does anyone know if there will be a video of the installation service? It was kind of hard to listen to it with 4 very tired sweaty people in the hotel room.

I am thankful for President Harrison and look forward to what the next 3 years will bring for our Synod.

September 11, a day that will live on in our minds. Watching part of the documentaries reminded me of how horrible that day was. I really hope and pray there it has been quiet in the mideast this weekend.

Other than that, the Huskers won, must have been a boring game and the Hawkeyes are beating up on the Cyclones.

Time for a nap or something for me.

i'm still watching the 9/11 documentaries, but going to have to tear myself away pretty soon - going to spend the afternoon/evening with a very good friend, and going to an outdoor orchestra concert (i think it's a tribute concert for 9/11) - should be very good!

I was driving to work and had to stop at the courthouse to get a judge to sign off on something. I was switching stations on the radio because there was no music. I finally stopped to listen just after the second plane hit. I got to the ...courthouse and the judge wasn't there. I overheard the security guard saying as I was leaving that there was talk of closing the courthouses. Got in my car in time to hear about the Pentagon. My first thought was that it was bin Laden, but at the time no one knew what I was talking about, LOL. I had been following what was going on in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over in 1996, forcing women and girls out of schools and jobs, and I knew he had safe haven there. I was telling people at work when I got there that I guess we were going to be invading Afghanistan now, and they all looked at me funny. I also remember sitting in line for 6 hours to give blood.

I'll always remember and when my kids are old enough they will be taught to remember, but today is also the Ethiopian New Year, and I'm not going to let 9/11 ruin our fun today! The Julian Calendar and the Ethiopian New Year have been around almost a couple of dozen centuries before 9/11.

I also just whipped up some homemade soup. I put the step stool to the stove and had my daughter stir as I was chopping and dropping. She stirred and told me all kinds of stories about her life before she became ours - more than she's ever told before. We learned about family, extended family, her best friend and her best friend's mom. I heard her understanding of the circumstances that led her and her brother to be relinquished (and I did a good job not crying). There were some ingredients I used that she recognized and others that she didn't. She wanted to smell all the spices before I put them in.

Then when we had dinner she proudly told all of us that she helped make it and she enjoyed a bowl and a half (pretty good since I wasn't sure if they would like it). My son also had almost 2 bowls.

Yep, I think we will be making lots of soups and stews from scratch this fall and winter.

Aww, what a heartwarming time you're having with the kids!!

My daughter helped make spaghetti yesterday for the cross country pool party. I told her she must have let one of the noodles fall into the flame because it smelled and she held up the box and said calmly, "Nope, the box is on fire."

Yeah. Good times. ^_^

Got to love the no fear.

Actually I'm kind of glad she still likes us. On Labor Day, DH took her out on a 4 wheeler at my sister-in-law's house... and flipped it into a ditch. She had all the classic signs of a concussion, but the CT scan was negative. She still has 2 black eyes from the front of her face hitting the handlebars, and thankfully her skin is so dark you can't tell unless you are looking for it. Other than that, she's fine. DH is still extremely sore, but no longer in the doghouse. No more 4-wheelers!

Welcome to the mid-40's! Got my first progressive lenses about 4 years ago.
