  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The belief that the virtue of making a truthful statement grants one the license to deliver it with crudeness, brutality and lack of compassion.

The sheer ignorance of failing to take into account that each individual has a personal history with different emotional triggers. What may appear to be a "melodramatic" response or mode of behavior to an outsider customarily makes perfect sense within the particular history of the person reacting in such a fashion. This does not mean the perceived "exaggerated" response is healthy, only that ridding oneself of certain wounds and automatic reactions is a process.

The foolish pride that hinders an individual from asking forgiveness.

When a person says, "Just get over it" or "You are foolish to feel such things" to an individual who is in turmoil.

Individuals who strip the love out of "tough love" and in truth are only promoting cruelty with no real interest in the other person's well being.
